You can camp at the Pecatonica forest preserve. I believe its about $10-$15 a night dont quote me 100% on price but its cheap.....downside is there is only 15-20 camping sites available.

I know a farmer that may be willing to let people camp on his land if there are enough people wanting to in order to make it worth his time lol

I looked up camping at the Pecatonica Forest Preserve, and it said $23 per unit for non-residents, but $13 for residents.

We have plenty of camping sites on the grounds if you decide to stay there.

I'm also from the area, actually grew up and live in Pec so the same offer seansr offered you goes with me too. I know there is camping right on the fairgrounds and also primitive camping on sumner park that is connected to the fairgrounds, I'm not sure on price at sumner park but could try and find out. If you are going to stay at a hotel don't stay at the ones closest too Pecatonica the nicer hotels are on the east side of Rockford also be careful in Rockford if you go there its not a nice place after dark or anytime of the day in some neighborhoods.

How is Freeport? Got a hotel reserved there. Do I need to sleep with one eye open? I have no need to see anything in Rockford. Thanks for the info.

farmboy, if you could find out more info such as price, number of campsites available, maybe a website with map, etc., about primative camping at the Sumner Park, that would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully, there would be more shade trees for camping, than on most fairgrounds.

Thanks

I am working on getting info about sumner park camping, it is right along the pec river so there are shade trees but also piles and piles of mosquito's.

Thanks so farmboy! Is there any good area to fish in the evenings between the convention and Rockford? My youngest son just loves to fish.

The pecatonica river has a few spots to bank fish and there are a few public ponds but don't expect great fishing, carp and catfish is going to be about it look at winnebago county forest preserve website for some bank fishing spots.
