OK I have had a lot of guys asking me where the pics went. Here are the pictures I said I would put up. They are of my line and results from the last four seasons. Over 6300 coon in those four seasons and I won't go into the mink catch. shocked

So much more besides catching in a line line yours. Would you high numbers trappers talk about some of the things like how long you trapped before you got your big numbers, and the many other things involved like carcass disposal, equipment care, and selling. Thank you for sharing.

"Some things a guy cannot discuss on the internet." You are truly an old trapper, that is the way I grew up also. Looking at that beard and gray hairs, that is how my hair changed color also! Ha!

Thanks for sharing what you did, it will really help me with my grandson! You post came at the perfect time, I was telling my grandson last January he could make some good money just on high coon numbers after we caught our first ridge runner. I explained to him in the late 60's we sold thousands of muskrats at $0.75-2.50. Was good money for kids then. I reminded him coon are not much different then rats they just take a little extra effort getting the fat off.

Thank you very much for the videos on fleshing and stretching, Ill show them to my grandson.

Thank you again and be safe over there near Highway 29!

Larry

Awesome pics LL, always love looking at your pics. I know we have the population to make catches like that here in SE Iowa, I just need the knowledge, time, and discipline to get it done.
Might be an old trapper to not discuss over the internet but not too old of trapper. My grandad whose in his mid 80s used to be a big number fox and skunk trapper. When I asked how to catch fox his words of advice were "they're pretty smart" and "you just gotta keep trying for them" that was all he would say. Wouldn't throw me a bone no how.

Fantastic work ethic and catch. Most don't understand what goes into a catch like that, even myself.

You are definitely a diligiant and disciplined trapper. I appreciate the pictures and knowledge you share.

I pleat only when the coon is too big for my boards or the tail is larger than my hardware cloth. I never do it for looks. By doing the tail last you are not thinning the inspection window by stretching it at the tail. LLL

Junior,I have visited with Larry off and on over about the last 8 or 10 years. What is your point? You won't see pictures from me anymore for a good reason and reasons I will not explain. Those that know me know why. Some things are better just left unknown.Only those in my direct loop know when and what I do.I am an,"Only tell what you want told guy".

Just don't get this post taken down for childish reasoning. When you post things on the internet you have to realize there are always going to be people that will not believe you, people who will be envious, people will try and do their level best to critic, some will down right lie about you. Others have motives to help or protect you from those who would take advantage of you as well. I believe that is where this is. I have had so many say they were going to come here and trap and take all my fur away and some are very good trappers. This was when you could make money doing it. They never came and if they had it would not have mattered to me. We have ROW and it belongs to anyone who has a permit. Let haters hate. I have no desire to fight over fur. I have no time for it. I have too much fur work to do. Besides being on this site as long as I have and hearing it all has gave me a pretty thick hide. LOL, LLL

Larry speaks the truth on this. My best friend who happens to be a deputy in Larry and I's county loves trapping coon. I'm not much into it in the current market but he's got a big block of time off, and thinks together we can knock down 2000 in a month....Hes been getting permission from one end of the county to the other. I think a few days would be exciting, but I don't know about a whole month. I'm a coyote trapper, not a coon guy. It takes a ton of time, effort, and dedication to put up numbers like that. We'll see what happens

Very few people around can get that much trapping but are a very few that do, must be better trapping in that area of state, I can't imagine anyone around here catching even close to that in row, although this part of state is better than some areas to west, there must be more streams an field tiles an water down that way, there are more coon an mink around than lot people think I believe, especially coon

Are those drying shelves or storing shelves? Figured in that climate they would be frozen waiting to be thawed.

If they are for drying do you drill holes in the shelves for air flow? I'd think expanded metal to be better?

No money in long lining coyotes around here. To many factors such as mange, having to line up private land, cannot roll the numbers needed to make it work, quality of yotes here. Besides I hate skinning coyotes and people cannot leave a coyote alone if they see it in your trap. I do trap a few in early January when the first really nasty weather moves in and the coon lay up for a bit before the rut. LLL

For me the math is not there. if I went and trapped 100 coyotes at a 25.00 average and take out the beat up, mange ones it would be a 20.00 average. I can catch that much coon and mink at a ten dollar average in four days. I live in coon country. It is the bread and butter here and mink and rats are the gravy. LLL

It's getting closer and work is getting done. I just got done getting these ready and got them dipped. Had to weld up 400 more stakes as well and glad that is finished. I have 9 weeks from today before I can start pre staking. I went and did some scouting on a line I have not ran in about 3 years. I run harder this year than I have in decades. Call me crazy but I am doubling down. Here are a few ready to dip. LLL

I start around the 12th of November and run until January 31st. A lot of blue coon that are worthless if I start too much earlier. LLL

Coon Combine sounds about right. I think your coon header may be off cause there are a pile of mink showing up in your truck.

I never have bought new springs. When I wear the old ones out or get some stolen I replace them and use the old ones for rats or sell them for that purpose. A duke 1,5 if taken care of will last for coon trapping ten plus seasons. I just bought 15 dozen because I am taking on another line completely and needed the traps for that. Then I needed the cables, swivels and of course the stakes. LLL

I have thick skin or I would not be posting anymore either. I remember the very first post I ever put on here was of 80 skinned coon I had hanging on my chain link fence from a one day check. I had so many guys saying that I was a liar that I stopped posting pictures for a while. I love sharing pictures and information when I can. Of coarse I can't share everything because it would not be fair to those who pay me for instruction.(Not advertising) LLL

This post and others that LL has posted amazes me-the work ethic, drive and flat out hard consistent work just doesn't quit.I am glad he is still posting after all the negative people on here that call foul on the hard working long liners.Post and pictures like this is what makes me get inspired to work harder every year on the line to become more efficient and rack up bigger numbers each year I trap.

Please keep posting pictures and posts like this LL-they are flat out awesome!
