What would be an appropriate monetary gift for a high school graduate that is a "great-niece'?

I think it depends on you financial ability. I know people who give $5.00 in a church offering and some give $50.00. The little old lady that gave $5.00 gave a much larger gift per here ability then the professional person who gave $50.00.
We went to a baptism for a good friends child and gave $50.00 and my wife bought some religious token things also. Perhaps something in that amount would be appropriate for your G-niece?

Depends. Are you close to her at all or did you just get in invite because they thought they would get some money out of it? If you think they just want some money then I would go with something like a The Jelly of the Month Club membership just to be ornery.

That's $79.00 American.

I think $20.00 to $50.00 is fine too.

I gave my youngest 1st cousin, Wyatt, who just gradulated high school, $50.00 and an invite to go hunting. He is very interested in going hunting. He has shot competitive skeet for years, but has never hunted. When he was little, he thought all the animals at the zoo came from me.

I am proud of him. He turned into a really nice young man. He was offered scholarships for football, track, wrestling and academics and took a full academic scholarship to college. He won wrestling, at the State Level twice, placed well in track and played varsity football all 4 years in highschool.

Give what you feel is an appropriate gift. Don't worry about how much, if they are a good kid they will appreciate the gift no matter what it is or how much.

Like what was said before, how close are you to them? My aunts and uncles are close to mine and my brothers kids so my niece and my son both received very generous gifts( to generous if ya ask me). I would say $25 to $100.

LOL, I don't think that is necessary, I think they each got a scholarship, the one has a full ride. She is going to play powder puff football at Ohio State.

If you are close to that great-niece and they are a good student with good character I'd give $100.

$50 for just average family members making it through the easy part. Good luck to your great-niece.

Pasadena, if he thinks of me as his great uncle, how come I never see him or he doesn't call me?

I only got a five dollar bill from uncles and aunts when I graduated in 1963. I didn't even get an invitation to the commencement ceremony. There are two of them. I mailed them each a card with a fifty dollar bill in it over a month ago, I did not get a thank you back so I thought maybe they thought I was cheap.

You're not cheap. It sounds like they are just ungrateful, unless the $50.00 bills disapeared in the mail, which does happen when cash is involved.

They may have just not gotten around to writing them out yet. When my son graduated high school, and his early July party, I think he finally got them all sent out in mid September. He would write a couple a day/week, then every month send them out.

Wife and I give hand trucks to graduates. At their age they will move about once per year and the hand truck will be worth its weight in gold before they retire. Especially good for college bound students.

Sadly, that's just young people today. They may not even know how to send something through the mail. lol

I've given graduation cards with money and have never received thank you cards from a few kids. Kind of a let down but what can ya do. The one thing I made sure of when my son graduated and received gifts or money was, that he have all of his thank you cards written and mailed within two weeks of his party. I figure those folks didn't hesitate to give him money and he shouldn't hesitate to say thank you.

Randy, you never see him because you never come see him play ball. I know, I know you're to busy being "semi" retired. Lol
Heck, when I call ya, you're always on the golf course.

Send her five $2 bills. Tell her they are rare and to hold on to them.
