The U of M is most accessable from I 35 and Mn 36. I would be looking North, such as Forest Lake, Stacey, North Branch; or east, even as Far as Hudson or RiverFalls, Wisconsin.

St. Cloud seems nice, or one of the smaller towns between there and the cities..

Forget any political considerations. The entire state is over ruled in the elections by Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and Duluth. Democrats.
If you have the choice for even money, of those you listed go with Anoka and live somewhere north of there. We'll have a bump someday up here if you take that advice. You'll thank me.

Over an hour each way twice a day grows old in a big hurry.

What the heck did you do? Most of the kids at Lino are either released or transferred at less than half that time.

Like any city, the closer in you are, the more spendy it is and higher the crime rate, taxes, etc.

There are some geographic differences in the suburbs that surround the metro. If you like to fish, I'd head NE of the metro....and as stated, more of a conservative feel up in that area. But really just get out aways and it will be nice.

The further you commute, the better it will be. Takes me almost an hour to get to work...it's worth the drive.

Lots of people live just over the border in WI, too. Nice areas there, And not a horrible commute in.

One other nice thing about duluth, if the drive, easy access to large chunks of woods, game, fish etc isnt enough.... you're 2 hours from the bwca and 30 mn from the wi brule (steelie mania) wink

LOL T-Rex, I am less than 3 miles from Hudson. If I was younger I would head further north.
I remember when Lake Elmo and woodbury were pretty much farm communities.Carrying a shotgun down lake elmo road ,never raised anyones eyebrows--lol -try that today and see where you land.

I just read this entire thread. Holy smokes. You all is city slickers, lol. I skoff every time I hear someone wants to live rural and work in the city. That would be like getting torn apart. Bemidji is 130 miles south of me.

Tradbow. I don't recall what exactly happened there....but my workmake just retired and moved to WI. His healthcare is 1/3 of what it would have been had he stayed in MN. He says the cost of living is substantially less as well.

As stated above, people deal with all this headache for the money. Hard to make 100K outside the hustle and bustle. I'm not saying its worth the trade off....just the way it is. But of course you pay more to live in it as well.

Brian, I would say it's all going to depend on where you get a job and how far you are willing to drive each day.

Do you want ot live in the hustle and bustle. More of a rural setting?

Me, I'd live in the Norwood/Young America area, or Cologne, Faribault, Vessily, Lonsdale, Farmington, Buffalo etc. You can still buy houses in the country if you aren't opposed to driving 40 50 miles a day to work plus traffic. Traffic is the killer.

Funny you say that. I think all of the businesses I have applied at have more employees than the population of the town I currently live in. LOL

I live in a dying town of 180 souls, and work all over the surrounding area.

The animals you trap don't always know boundries. There is opportunity in the metro too.

I'm sure there are any number of fur-friendly apartment complexes in the area that won't mind a carcass pile next to the dumpster. Eh?
