Little sis Kami came up and spent 10 days with me so we flew out to the cabin and did a little work and play.

Dug in a few trap beds and drove stakes for new ridge top pee posts. Have a couple new packs to play with this winter.

My folks came up and we did the tourist thing during rainy weather.

The little man and I have been doing a few little trips. He's doing well and getting pretty tough but still a picky eater. He got in his first wreck and I was lucky enough to be the driver. He was pretty excited and made sure I got a picture of his 1st crash. I guess there was no getting this by his ma. I hit a stump under the water which launched us out of the water. Amazing how much scarier it is when you are responsible for someone so little and fragile. I almost puked I was so scared for his safety after we hit the bank. All went well and his mom said that it would be the first of many.

Here is a marshmallow stealing squirrel at my bear bait. I warned him twice before letting a arrow fly. Shot 3 on the bait and left them. The bears nor the wolf touched them. I shot 17 red squirrels at the cabin in two weeks
Still have to go pick up my Tundra across the river before winter. Water is raging so I think I'll wait for a couple weeks and hope for the best. Well men, have a great rest of the summer and a safe fall hunting season. Trapping season is coming fast.

Looks like you've been getting in some good family time, and I know yours is close. Best feeling in the world to be loved by those who know you best, and a bad sign when your own family can't stand you! Believe it or not I was just presented with my first great grandson on Father day, and I'm 57! To me family is the most important thing in the world, with bush a close second.

Those hills look a lot more timbered by your cabin, now that most of the snow has burnt off. Like that shot with the caribou shed and the big vista in the background! Keep on living the life AK

JR thanks again for bringing us along that's some great looking country out there .
I'm glad your folks and Kami made it up there for a visit even if it rained while they were there.
The picture of the two grizzly bears is way cool it needs to be framed and hung on the wall.
Stay Safe out there !
Allan

Cool pics man! That's some good prep work for the wolves. I'm looking forward to fall hunting soon then getting a bit of trail cutting in before the trapping season starts.

Good weather upon us so took a buddy over across the Tanana with the airboat "Mothership" and retrieved my Tundra and sled that I left this spring. River was still high but doable.

The new machines are so dang big even the Tundra was a load in the Mothership. I'm not much of a big water guy and that bow heavy load was sketchy crossing the main channel of the river.

Once on the other side in the slough, I began to relax a bit. Had a couple little glitches with the boat but thankfully they were when we were empty and in good channels. I wasn't feeling good about taking it 10 miles down the river so we just took it across and unloaded it on the back below a friend's place close to the river. The 4-stroke Tundra drives like an atv along the trail except it doesn't wanna turn. Kinda like the Wide tracks do any time.
Once the sled was unloaded we walked up to my friends house to wait out he oncoming thunderstorm. I really hate being out on the water in that tall airboat during a lightning storm. After an hour thunder storm passed over, we walked down to the boat and headed downstream in the sun. 4 minutes into our journey running about 35 mph, the boat just looses all power and dies. That'll liven up a trip in a hurry. The rain had pooled up on my gauge panel and shorted out my main fuse killing all electronics. Ol Leroy watched downstream for sweepers and kept me up informed of the river. I had a new fuse in the box and quickly replace the fuse and fired up the big block and we were back up and running. Nothing like a little excitement to keep ya young.

Took the boy up this morn and loaded the Tundra and sled on the truck. She's back home now with her big brother the WT in the shop.

JR, what are the pods on the hull? They look similar in design to additional floatation I have seen added to floats on aircraft. Love the airboat pics. I run one, and am building a second one.

Thanks guys.

Yukon254... fuel economy all depends upon who is buying the fuel. She's 20' powered by a 502 Chevy big block. If you are buying the fuel, she's pretty thirsty and will burn 15 to 25 gallons an hour. If I am buying the fuel, she's pretty good and burns about 8 to 12. I run pretty light most of the time and don't spend time trying to impress anyone. She's a tool and needs to get me back home too. Used to be pretty rough on her but not any more.

Mad mike... I'm not sure what pods you are talking about but I assume you are looking at the 4" aluminum channel welded along the sides. This was a reinforcement to the hull we did 25 years ago for preventing the sides being pushed in coming off log and or ice jams in the springtime. I'd like to put a new hull under this one. She has so much memory in the bottom, it's hard to keep the bottom straight after hitting the rocks. We've built a steel jig that works really good for pushing the bottom out after these rough trips but it is time consuming. The boat is a 1984 Panther hull and rigging that has been through a number of power plants and this set up has been the best by far. What do you run and what is the new one you are building?

JR, I currently run a 16' Alaska Aiboat hull with a small block and 2:1 belt drive. The new one is a 14' Alumatech with a 0540 Lycoming.

Cool Mike. My first boat was a 11' fiberglass hull with a 160 hp lycoming. Great 2 man fishing, exploring boat. She didn't like to pack much weight though and her own wake would sink her. Dang did I have some good times in it til the hull just gave up. I really like the big hulls for my applications though. Good luck and have fun. I'd like to see some pics of your boats some time.

Got my traps that I'd had at the house all inspected, fixes and mods done and dyed for the up coming season. Had a few chains that were in poor shape from someone with a bad axe eye. Chopping them out of the overflow has it's hazards. I'm sure some of them wouldn't have held a wolf.

Took my god-son Tristan out to the flats fishing this weekend and had a blast. He's coming around. Even had him driving the boat. Not for long though, his attention span is just a little bit shorter than mine.

The water had went down in the flats so we had a great time fishing. He learned how to use the kayak and did really well.

We kayaked up to the neighbors cabin and had a long legged beaver fall a tree on their shed.

Good to have all the kids home for a reunion in the shop. They missed their little sister the Tundra. Hunting season is upon us, hunt hard, hunt safe and see ya this winter
