I just wanted to give a heads up that James Lucero's Master Wolfer book is available from him. I had been searching for it and seen quite a few other folks looking for it as well, so you can give him a call if you are interested. He said he is going to be printing his Snare lines across the West in the next month or so. I hadn't been able to find his book anywhere, so figured I would give him a call. Turns out he has it available.

His number is (575) 585-6314.

Just got my copy of Master Wolfer delivered, and really enjoyed it...Mr. Lucero tells me he is 82 yrs old, and still trapping, so he is an inspiration to many...Thanks Nate Dawg for the heads up on this book!

Excellent book.
Forgot to mention, loved his bait and lure. Real good stuff.
Also wrote for his opinion on a couple things and asked for some advice. He always took the time to answer. His writing back was brief, but to the point and spot on.

I remember reading about him back in the late 70's and early 80's....He's made a very respectable impact on coyote's wherever he has operated.

I haven't seen or spoken to Jim in many years. I believe the last we spoke was at the NTA in Michigan years ago. I am glad to hear he is still at it.

I also met Jim Lucero at the NTA in Michigan, the first impression is that he is a mans man.I could,t help but give him the utmost respect.I always liked the part of his book that tells of Mr.Lucero using his grandfathers #3 Newhouse to trap coyotes.

I think he lived in Garden City KS, and while driving back from TX this spring I went through there and wondered if he was still with us.

Just came across this post. I kinda got out of trapping when the anti's voted to ban steel foothold traps on public lands here in Arizona. I remember James coming to our trapper rendezvous here in AZ and later going over to his place in Garden City, Kansas for instruction. What a blast. Exremely knowledgeable man and FUNNY! We laughed so much, great time. Over in NM at a rendezvous my lab wanted to play with his dog, his dog just snarled and that was that, didn't want to play. Next day his dog just walked past my dog and my dog jumped him and kicked the snot out of him. James said from that day there after anything black scared him. Any how, I've got 5 copies of Master Wolfer if anyone wants to purchase one. I used to sell a few trapping supplies at a friends gunshop and have some left. I'm not trying to compete with Mr Lucero but send me a message if you would like one. I'd like to get $14 each mailed to you or all 5 for $55. Guys thanks for the responses, they've all been spoken for. If I find anymore I'll repost. Thanks. Dave

Talked to Mr. Lucero on the phone! That was cool! If you call just speak up and have clear speech. We discussed lures a little amd he is sending me a catalog.

I remembered seeing this thread when I went to visit my dad for the holidays, so I checked his trapping book shelf and found it, borrowed it, and read it tonight. Really enjoyed it. I noticed that he only described a couple of sets in it, one that really made a lot of sense. He also alluded to a large number of other sets that he taught in his personal instruction, but didn't describe in the book. Did he ever publish another book, or provide a handout to his students that did? Based on what I saw in Master Wolfer, I would be willing to pay a decent amount for that. If nobody knows of another book I think I'll be trying to get in touch with Mr. Lucero to try and purchase a handout if such a thing exists since I doubt he still gives instruction.

There are quite a few sets in his book , along with many other things he talks about , lure and bait being one of them .

James also wrote "Snare Lines Across the West" ,1986 .
There is a short video of an interview with him on YouTube, IMG_1748 should get it up to view

I took a screen shot of a paper, with a couple article's below .
If I wasn't on my phone I would link the video and paper link , maybe some can do that .

He was an eight time state archery champion.
Still makes many hand made items along with deer antler, elk and predator calls .
