Brunton Helios. Not cheap, but what's your life worth. I keep mine in my survival vest for when I'm waaaay back in the deep woods. Works great, will start wet wood/bark etc, and you can almost weld with this sucker. Also keep water proofed, strike anywhere matches too.

Haven't seen a flare used in so long that I'm surprised they are still available.

Road flares are hard to beat ,if you have the space to carry them which probably prevents alot from doing so.

I had a expensive weather /wind/waterproof lighter , don't remember the name but it wasn't cheap. You could have done light welding /braising with it . Had ,I said. Pietzo ignition, which is apparently fragile. It failed when needed.

Fuzees are used on the railroad for emergency 10 minute signalling in dark territory.

One cotton round that was dipped in wax, lit by a ferro rod and placed in the kindling pile works great: 13 minutes to a blazing fire with a few strikes on a ferro rod....

Where do you find a "peanut lighter " ?

I did find smaller 5 minute flares which would be much handier to carry .

I used to carry my grandfather's zippo but the fluid wouldn't last long and evaporate . I wonder if there's anyway to seal one that it won't.

Tactical.20, I saw what I think you are talking about. Made by the people that make the Atomic lanterns and flashlights.

Minker I mentioned before that on my Zippo I have a piece of bicycle inter-tube. I believe I even first read of doing it in FFG years ago. It's not fool proof but does seal my zippo making the fluid last longer and it actually does 3 things. Being rubber it keeps the lighter from dumping out of my pants pocket when sitting down. My work pants had terrible slippery pockets and I was dumping my lighter and pocket knife a lot until rubber was added to both. Like said it tube seals the zippo and being rubber can be used as a fire starter in a pinch. It helps me most with first two issues.

I'll have to try that Mac, I'd rather carry that old zippo than a bic .
