I'm thinking that red fox is a coyote.

Thanks for the correction on the canine ID. I've never seen one here in the summer. It was on the small size and acted like a fox when I saw it running. Possibly a spring pup coyote, or young adult shedding?

Great pictures for sure, I bet it's a young one. Fox always have black legs usually,
I don't have a picture of one that close without being in a trap or snare

Beautiful photos Jonathan.

I work outside but I'm usually so wrapped up in my work I tend to miss seeing a lot of wildlife...

Except the butterflies.

There is something about the color of my hardhat that attracts them. I know butterflies see the color spectrum differently than we do. Perhaps they see my hardhat and the color says "flower" to them. They usually light on the bill, rest for a few seconds, and then take off. I can only assume they land, realize it's not a flower, and go on.

It always seems to get a few laughs from the guys I work with. But I don't mind.

Mike

Jonathan,
I especially admire your
Kestrel. Is it eating a de-winged dragonfly, or perhaps a huge grasshopper? I've been seeing a beautiful female Kestrel every day for over 2 weeks at the airport where I fly. She's often on the runway or taxiway. We have a heavy crop of big dragonflies this year, and I finally realized she's learned to scavenge dragonflies killed or injured by aircraft coming and going. Thanks for all the pictures.
