Les-Rally has an 82 pound freezer burned-road killed beaver for your demonstration.I think we should charge a fee to watch you clean skin that one-LOL-. Eclipse glasses and nose plugs may be needed.

You're not going to land a 747 in a field. It was hauled. IIRC the wings were off.

Brad Wobbrock is the District 8 Director for the MTA and is from Southern Minnesota. I know that he's trapped in Alaska and I'm guessing that he open water traps the Minnesota river as he heralds from Cleveland Minnesota. Brad, pipe in and tell us a little more about yourself! smile

Demo 2 is Rally Hess from Hill City Minnesota. Anybody that does any snaring likely already knows him as he owns Rally's Snares. Rally traps professionally has a really interesting background of having done Predator control in nesting areas for the DU or Delta. He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to beaver trapping (ADC and fur), and manufactures snares for use all over the world.
What did I miss Rally?

I have been clean skinning beaver since I started trapping them in the "80s" . I only recently tried putting them up any other way. Clean skinning is becoming more rare these days.

Geez Les, how clean do you need to be while skinning beaver? Why not just clean up when your finished. That must have been a huge pile of beaver if you've been skinning them since the 80's. Either that or you're really slow. laugh

Ken, have you ever seen the pictures of Les's kitchen? Clean isn't a big priority!

If he had any sense he'd hire the neighbor lady to come over and tidy up, among other things....................

Mike Kelly hails from Park Rapids Minnesota and owns Wild River Traps. He's a quick start that first started trapping in 2004. He's also a new father!
His expertise is water trapping and he will be giving a demo on Otter Trapping.

Mr. Mo,

Just curious if you would allow me to attend your upcoming trapper rendezvous?

I feel I may have offended a few of your constitutes. Albeit, but that may have been on a personal level. I apologized for my uneducated word selection.

P.S. Sounds like a fantastic gathering! If you could get that guy nimzy over there from Trapperman, I would imagine your gathering would have more buzz than the total eclipse!

Thanks, and God Bless

Jeremy

Everybody's welcome Jeremy. I sincerely mean that. You didnt offend me and if anybody was offended they need to thicken their skin. Lol
Put 10 trappers in a room and you're likely to get 11 different opinions. Lol

That's not a bad thing in my opinion. Life gets mighty boring when everybody thinks the same. It would be great if you attended. Bring a friend.

Maybe you should get MB Coonguy as a nonresident down. He does not have any marsh water to trap in this fall. Then ehHe then is close to Rally to pick up more 10 foot stakes.
It is our Manitoba water opener that day
Best of luck

Last time I counted I have trapped otter in 4 states. Most of my otter trapping is with body grip to take advantage of the extended checks.

My best run was I believe 12 otter in one day, and 54 in a 14 day trip with a partner.

Well..."that country" is in the mountainous, hilly area as opposed to the flatland peat swamp that seperates where I live. The real Minnesota is up north here around Lake of the Woods, lol. It's like being in a foreign land down around Hill city .

Not a lot if Must See's in the area. But a lot of cool country if you like beaver ponds.
Head North out of Grand Rapids and you are in the lake and pond country.
Head west toward Hackensack and your in the same type country.
Bring the mud boat and find some of the local lakes or rivers with cattails or wild rice and look for some muskrat sign.

Jeremy, it's unfortunate for you that you might not be able to make it. I know you were looking forward to it, especially if I can con the Wisconsin contingent into coming. If nitzy(some day I have to shake the man's hand who misspelled your moniker for that) makes it in the Prius and I can con Justin into showing up we could have a heck of a shindig. Maybe the beav could drive up too, then we'd be truly blessed.

I know several other guys from your neck of the woods who had the 14th on their schedule for some time now that will have to choose.

That over the knee deal is clean skinning.....after rough skinning once. If you can do one, you can do the other.

I am going to demonstrate one of the oldest methods of pelt preparation. Back when folks couldn't carry their fleshing beam and draw knife around with them in the bush . And I'll do it with a knife that has been in production for around 200 years. As I haven't Googled this, you can take it with a grain of salt...for now .

Fantastic--clean skinning a beaver with a grain of salt.
You are the man Les.
I will bring the salt shaker.

Clean skinning beaver and fleshing a rough skinned beaver over your thigh have one thing in common, they both require a good sharp knife and ability of the skinner to sharpen said knife.

I think I can flesh one over my thigh....lucky for me, that's not the demo I'm doing, lol. I have tried it though, for those tough grissle spot around the tail area of the beaver, and I did for just craps and giggles .

Do you mean ARCTIC CRAP, with the JUNK FRames that will leave you out in the middle of nowhere broken in too! I wonder if they ever took care of the 100,s of bad frames. my second frame lasted a total of 3 weeks before starting to crack in all the same places 100's of others did. I have 15,000 miles on my Grizzly 700 with no problems.
sounds like a good lineup, Rally are getting shiney on top or what?

4:00 pm Mink and Coon Trapping – Gerald Schmitt
I don't think Gerald needs much introduction from me. He's the real deal folks and has forgot more about commercially trapping mink and coon than most of us will ever know.

Unfortunately, I will not be leaving for CO until Tuesday so I will not be passing through. I really wanted to make it over for this event. So much packed into one day!

Hey Les, did you get a good turn out for this? Close to home for me but I was out of the state working. Sure looked like a great venue!
