Went last weekend with friend and seen a few. I did not bring my dog as the Deer Ticks were insane. I can't afford the vet bills. Do other grouse areas have these ticks? Cass county MN is crazy with them. Made me give up hunting my dogs until the snow flys.

Ticks have been bad for me...all over N. WI. The dogs are fine...the tick stuff I give them really works. But, that means they end up on me. I have a few nasty sores from the dang things.

Grouse have been spotty. My normal areas are really bad this year. Last week, I hunted some of my old areas about 30-40 miles away...lots more birds. I'm working this week, but will be back at it next week.

This is my pup and her first solo bird. She really nailed this one down w/ a nice point. I normally hunt her w/ my 9 year old GSP, but I try to sneak her out for some time by herself. One evening I had an hour to hunt before dark. I took her out near camp, which hasn't been very productive. 3 solid points and 3 partridge in the shell vest. Not too bad for not even a year old.

Great. I'm in Douglas. If you find yourself needing an extra hand on the line this winter or a decent shot to bag some birds, feel free to PM me.

Good point. Tried what I guess was sage grouse on an elk hunting trip in Colorado. Pretty bad! The rancher said they were mostly just fun to look at; definitely not something to eat.

Much better hunting today. I got 2, dad got 1 and 1 woodcock. Our buddies got 2. We all jumped 43 compared to 13 yesterday. I should have killed 3 more, guess my barrel is bent. Don't know how i missed them. Went to a different county today. Great dog work, which I love watching. Rivers, I stopped by St. Croix and got a rod today, along with a rapala. May make a cast or two in butternut. Really supposed to cool off tonight. Will give an update tomorrow. You Wisconsin gents gots some great country up here.

Love to see you guys still have grouse. When I was a kid a guy could put up 45 a day with out a dog, I bet I ain't put up one in 15 years, just don't know what happen. All the woods have been logged so the habit is there.

Dad and I killed 3 more today. Jumped 25. Several good points. 2 different times today I had great shots, emptied the benelli. I believe the dogs were disappointed in me.

Scout1 - How was it today?

I'm heading out to camp tomorrow. 10 days of nothing but partridge hunting. I can't wait!
