Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy with Obstruction....?????? Anyone have this .....I have been dealing with it for 14 years and it has gotten progressively worse.....to the point that yesterday my Heart doctor called Mayo Clinic to set up an appointment for me to have open heart surgery to correct the problem.....have not heard when the appointment is yet but sooner the better....HCO.....is a genetic issue where the wall of the heart chamber thicken decreasing the volume of blood that it holds plus this and in my case it has grown to interfere with the opening of the mitral valve .....the surgeon has to go inside the heart chamber and remove the thickened wall muscle increasing the volume and allow the valve to operate unhindered.....will be in Mayo 6-8 days and 6-9 weeks recovery at home.....will post surgery date when it is scheduled.....

Cletis, it is amazing what is possible now that was unheard of not so many years ago. Sounds like you have a plan and want to get this behind you. Hope everything goes well for you and be patient during recovery. That procedure is gonna leave a mark and it is going to take time for everything to heal back up. The yotes and cats may be getting a short reprieve but they will be there when you are ready to get after them again.

Prayers from here, for you and family. Take care, and I pray for a speedy recovery. I don't know anything about the surgery, but I do know that the Mayo , has some amazing surgeons.

Just keep in mind that today the surgeons are great at doing heart surgery. It will be an ordeal but stay strong, and rely on your faith.

I wont send prayers Cletis your a tough old bird and don;t need them.

Been there last year with a quintruple heart bypass. I had little pain and these heart doctors have their stuff together. In fact the whole surgery room does from the anesteologits at your head to the tech that runs the heart lung machine.

The only issue I have is forgetfullness which is typical from being technically heart dead for up to 5 hours.

Always thinking, I wanted something most don't have for a trophy. Have the anestheoligist get a picture of your heart. Now that is a true trophy, and keep sake IMHO. Not very many people have even seen their own heart, let alone have their own photo.

Afterwards, Ill welcome you to the zipper club. The zipper is that sternum scar of bravery all heart patience have.

You'll be fine, and youll have two to three women with you in the intensive care area, that are the best nurses in the hospital. Best personalities also.

Larry

Sorry to hear that my friend. I have heard of your problem, it seems like guys who "work out" real hard have a thickened heart muscle such as you have. I have had by-pass twice in the last 20 years, not the same thing, I know, and it will take some time for your recovery. Good luck and be patient with your recovery.

Cletis,

Those docs at Mayo will have you up & running the otter line in LA, the coyote line in multiple states, and a whole lot more I expect in no time at all. Wishing you the best as I've prayed to our Heavenly Father that His Will be that Cletis, one of the great thinking minds in the trapping world today, be repaired and renewed.

You've got much to do yet sir.
God's Healing

Just went through a quadruple bypass in April. Just follow directions and don't rush it. Was off work for 3 months and still limited in what I can do, mainly if it hurts stop. Usually you're heart is healed by the time you leave the hospital, it's the healing of the breast bone that's the real problem. It just takes time. I expected to be healed up in 2 months, you can get over anything in 2 months. I was wrong doc was right again. My nurses were the best I have ever been around. After I came home I kinda missed talking to them. Just trust in the Lord and you will be fine. Mike

Prayers set

Hang in there you'll be fine. I had heart surgery 2 years ago, an aortic valve replacement plus 3 bypasses. It's a little rough at first but in time you'll be good as new. I'm pushing 63 and feel like I'm in my early 40's

Cletis

I will pray for you also.

A good friend of mine had a titanic valve replacement Tuesday as well as a triple bypass. He is doing very well and they thought he would go home Saturday. They said the surgery was a great success.

This surgery is more complicated than having a wart removed, but with today's technology, is very successful. It's amazing what doctors can do these days.

Just got a email this morning flying to New York to meet with surgeon for conference the 27th surgery will probably be hopefully the 29th.....Mayo Clinic's first surgery date was early December and that was not optimal, so we had to look into other possibilities , which where Cleveland , New York and California as well as Mayo...... There are not many facilities that do the surgery I need on a regular basis. Thank you for all of the prayer and concern...I appreciate my Trapperman family .

Cletis

Cletis, this is Julie D'Aigle. I also have cardiomyopathy. Mine was from a virus that attacked my heart when I was 35. I have an enlarged heart and damage to my left ventricle. My open heart surgery in 2014 was done to replace my mitral valve(although my Dr was able to repair it with a special device). I know this is not what you are explaining, but my heart surgeon at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Mpls. is brilliant. If you cant find anyone in a timely matter I would certainly give him a call. Please know you are in our prayers, and call if you would like to talk about open heart surgery, or would like my Doctors information. I found that although it hurt like h_ll for the first few days..it was really a piece of cake. lol.. Sincerely, Julie D
