This has probably been asked a bunch of times but I'd rather ask than be a dummy.
If you were to buy a two door cage trap for ground hogs which one would you suggest.

I have one to remove right now that is under a handy cap ramp, its elevated enough that I believe a cage trap is the only route to go.

I Rely heavily on safeguards for single door traps. For 2-door traps I use have a hearts, some frown on those traps but if you maintain them and keep all the moving parts lubed they do the job rain, snow, or shine. According to the homeowner this groundhog had rammed the trap doors for a good portion of the day while trying to escape before I came to retrieve it. I have no issues with these traps I usually don't necessarily use the best on the market if I can make do with what I have readily available and I feel I can get the job done with it.

I'd act sooner rather than later they are quick to undermine a structure.

Comstock cage traps, tomahawk cage traps, advance trap cage traps, Safeguard cage traps They all make two door traps that will work. Two companies have wire triggers and two have pan triggers

Comstock 2 door cages rule. These traps are built like tanks and are awesome for positive sets. I just got some multi purpose traps this weekend and caught a chuck in one this morning. 18" 2 doors with a nose cone are perfect over a den hole, you catch them coming or going.

Kurt, I agree for the most part but if Safeguard makes a two door trap, I don't know of it. It's one of the noticeable weaknesses of the Safeguard brand.

If Safeguard would make them (two Door) I would certainly use them but I have not seen them available as of yet.

We don’t have woodchucks here, so have never attempted to catch one. Tomahawk Livetrap has some double-door cage traps available. They vary in size for critters from squirrel size to raccoon/armadillo size. I have had good luck with single door Tomahawk traps.

For ADC work double cage traps are huge leap forward over single door traps, a must, whether in a wire trigger or a pan, no comparison, the only way to go in many situations. Single door traps are very limited in scope. After a bunch of years using single door traps when I first started, taking more time and effort, if I had to go back to single I would retire. Comparing, single to double would be like using a conibear with a board on one side of the trap to catch one way, as opposed to a trap set alone to catch both ways. You would not even think of doing that. I still have traps set at den holes dating back to April 19, still catching with regularly whenever a roaming chuck or skunk returns. Needless to say, they are double door traps. I have two locations with a single trap set for months taking a total of 10 chucks, 4 skunks and 2 possums so far, all catches emanating from the outside in, protecting gardens. If you have a double to trap you can use it with one door open if you want. If you have a single door trap, you are stuck, can't go the other way.

I recently bought a couple of Comstock double door cage traps and they absolutely rule. These are very solid traps that one can set with great confidence! They do make it look easy.

Northern also offers some great double-door traps. I've been using them for a few years.
