Hopefully it doesn't rain all winter like last year. Downpours on Christmas in MN is unacceptable.

I hope it's a short winter but it is going to be a long and hard one. Gonna be good for snow removal.

One thing I've heard for years around here is you can judge your coming winter by the size of the rat houses on the sloughs. Large rat house = harsh winter. Small rat house + mild winter. I haven't seen any this year. Don't know if that means we'll be wearing shorts all winter or there aren't any rats. crazy

No rat huts here either, but they usually don't start building until mid-late October in my area.

An Indian told me it was going to be a long cold winter.
I asked how he knew that,he said "White man cut lots of firewood"

My guess is not a lot of snow but its going to be very cold. Last year we got an extreme amount of snow for ND in the end of November and December which shut down a lot of trap lines and made snaring difficult unless you were using a snowmobile to run your line. Every time they cleaned out the country roads a strong wind would come through and plug everything right back up like they weren't even there and driving through it was impossible.

Hoping our winter is anything but a repeat of last.

Maybe so. But spring rains would be nice too and I'd still be able to get around the country roads.

Some Rats building huts a month early here....that is never a good sign. Bring it on, tied of wearing shorts and doing yard work.

Yep Our walnut trees have a huge crop of nuts this year. Beavers are working hard in a lot of my creeks.

There is a really huge crop of black walnuts here too. The branches are hanging low and some branches broke off in the last, fairly weak storm.

I hope we have another mild Winter, but suspect it will be a cold one since Summer was so cool.

I try to keep a 30 day supply, or greater, of feed, for all of my birds, dogs and us. I try to keep enough hay to last until the end of May for the goats and cattle. I remember the Winter of 1978 and figure, something like that will happen again sooner or later.

I'll bet they don't. I will, however, bet they will continue to be 24 hours long. LOL
