I butchered my wax dirt this year so I decided to just use glycol before things get ridiculously cold and I begin snaring. I bought my glycol from a trapping supply store that just so happens to store it in the lure room. The outside of the bottle smelled some but I figured it wouldn’t get into the glycol itself. Wrong. I caught hints of skunk as I sprayed down the sets. I went ahead and sprayed it well beyond the trap bed so there wouldn’t be a single skunky spot to dig up or roll on. Any ideas of what I can expect when I check Wednesday? I’ve had a good run until now but a problem free freeze proofing didn’t seem to be in the cards for me this season. I talked to one older trapper who said if it didn’t completely dissipate quickly since it’s pretty faint, at worst it would carry a little additional attraction. I’m hoping it doesn’t cause me refusals, digging, or rolling.

I'd be a little concerned myself if I smelled something like that. I don't think it'd bother me as much because it's skunk though. I've had skunks spray at sets several times, and they still made other catches like yotes and foxes, and of course, another skunk occasionally. That would actually be my main "concern", that I'd start catching a bunch of skunks. Just have to see what the critters say.

I buy mine at a farm supply store for $20 a gallon and mix it 50/50 with river water.

I think I’m just gonna buy my glycol at Tractor Supply from now on. It’s a little cheaper there anyway. I’m gonna get a chance to see how your Mega Mouse works at my remakes.

I use either glycerine and water or when I buy my glycol, I store it in glass until I mix 50/50 with tap water
Never too old to learn

Buying Glycol at Tractor supply works if you use the entire gallon within that trapping season . It has been my experience ,, that after opening,,, and not entirely used it will acquire a very strong chemical smell the following season . It will still freeze proof sets , but the smell will cause sets to be dug at and dug up . Totally trash,, at least for canine trapping . Ask me how I know ?
