I talked to a guy over the weekend that said he heard lure prices may increase next year. Has anyone else heard this?

Why is that? I don't really understand is it because of lower harvest?

With few beaver being trapped--the castors out there, have gone way up in price. One of the reasons lure prices will probably go up.
I have quit making my MoundMaster beaver lures ,because of the big jump in castor prices.

Competition--that's why I quit making mine--I can't sell it at the going retail, and make any money.

I want $60.00 a pound for my beaver castor, and when he asked how is my beaver lure I told him and my word he said that's hi-way robbery. I just thanked him and said happy shopping.

Right now I'm looking at going to $7.50 for one ounce, $25.00 for four ounce and $85.00 for a pint.

I really enjoy making lure, but at current prices, I'm just above breaking even. That's not counting labor.

I hate to do it, but unfortunately making lure is getting more and more expensive. If I do this, it will be around March/April, so the dealers can have their catalogs updated with the new prices.

Good lure doesn't cost it pays. 7.50 an oz. is still cheap. A man can get a lot of mileage out of an oz. of lure.

Paul you beat me to it. I was looking at $8.00 an ounce myself but haven't made a firm decision. The last few years of ingredient costs have really pushed these increases. The cost of increases and the lack of enough availability of some materials just seems to get more scare each year. In order to keep the quality where it is there isn't any alternative.

The younger generation needs to step up in cutting glands and collecting essence and urine or in the near future there wont be much natural material left to work with. Most materials will be synthetic in nature or man made substitutes of sorts.

I was looking at MTP for their ingredients...if I wanted to make a certain two ingredient lure, it would cost $12/oz buying glands an ounce at a time or around 8/oz if I bought them 16 oz at a time.

It would be an expensive lure to make or buy(you'd have add bottle, lablenand time into the cost) but it catches everything.

I'm thinking the $8.00 an ounce is about right, but I was afraid of sticker shock at that price.

Ya I'm sweating... can't imagine prices going up but it makes sense. Are bait prices going to go up also?
