We start next years shopping for my in-laws and children as soon as the clearance sales start after Christmas, by October we have everyone covered except ourselves and our children, we pack it all up and ship it overseas in time for their Christmas holiday. I HATE the shipping bill!

I'm with you, although my wife does 90% of it. But the last couple times i've needed something from the store i've just went at 9-10 at night. It's so much quieter and easy without the daytime circus!!

I hear you. I go around 2am if the stores are open. Not that I hate people. I just hate people.

I learned to do exactly the same thing quite a few years ago and I don't shop either, just get what I came for and gone.

I asked my wife what I got her, she said she's still working on it.

That's why I give cash or gift cards. At work I would pass out lotto tickets.

I bought a hog and had it butchered and processed last December. I gave the meat away for Christmas presents. Everyone liked it and it kept me from having to shop a lot.

I am doing it again this year and will probably keep doing it. Most people like ham, bacon, porkchops, sausages and cracklings and will use them. Compared to the useless knickknacks and clothes people give, to me, meat seems like a more practical present.

I opted out several years ago. My Bride and kids thought I was the ultimate selfish Scrooge. They got over it. Neither my Bride ,or I, need ANYTHING, if I need it, I go out and buy it myself. I also put the word out that I wanted no more stupid presents....They still buy crap, some of which is ridiculous stuff I not only don't need, but don't want either, but the theory is apparently "get something, anything, 'cause anything is better than nothing". That is not true at all. Something you neither want nor need is just so much new clutter. Christmas was always a stressful time of the year.....no longer. I ain't playing. Bahhhhhh Humbug!!!!!!

I just don't. If the missus wants or needs something, I buy it no matter what time of year , month or day it is. Same goes for myself. This whole Christmas thing is blown out of all proportions and is just one big commercial stunt.
