Those magnolia leaves in your link aren't pointy like the one in the OP's pic.

That's my guess too. The cucumber magnolias have a leaf like that only smaller.
It doesn't look like a leaf from the catalpas that grow around here.

Nope, not an 870. The safety is in front of the trigger. Looks like a semi-auto to me. smile

Yup like you said the safety is in front 870 is on back of trigger. I'm really not a gun guy I do have a few 870's but haven't shot them in many moons.

This picture was taken in mid November. I should have mentioned that.

Bigleaf magnolia is what I originally thought.

I don't believe it's a catalpa, because I've seen those, and the color doesn't match. Catalpa is a bright lime green, and this was much darker. I need to go find those trees while they still have their leaves and check out the tree noting bark and anything else. I had the best run of squirrel shooting I've ever had right where I found this. There were squirrels all over, and I kept leaning from behind a large tree, shooting, back behind to reload, repeat. I was shooting #6 steel and it took 2 shots on some. I shot nearly every shell I had with me, boom boom boom....when I was finished I picked up 6 squirrels if I remember correctly, this leaf picture has been a couple years.

Never in my life have I stood in one spot and shot so many squirrels. I guess it was because I was covered behind that large tree. Dang squirrels seemed to be feeding in every tree in that small location. I was wood duck hunting. I shot a couple ducks and crossed the bayou to retrieve. That's when I stumbled upon this squirrel bonanza

I had that thought too, but it's not found down there. Regardless it's still a magnolia of some sort.
