So like I said I got my big mink skinned all four feet included not one hole I spent a looooong time on it but I'm glad now my question is I want to get it tanned I've tried the orange bottle stuff and its ok but I want this big boy done right, should I just flesh and dry him on a male mink board should I salt him? I read there guidelines and it sais they can be salted or trapper dried, but I don't no what I will have the best results with, and has anyone else used them? If so how did it come out? Thanks everyone

Flesh and dry just like you would to sell. Nothing wrong with Moyles but they are still back logged. Z&L in New Jersey, Tubari, Sleepy creek in Iowa will do you a great job also. with less shipping and faster turn around right now.

I'm not sure how back logged Moyles is right now. A friend was there recently and said that the receiving area was almost empty.

Don't know for sure however.

Great Northern tannery in Wisconsin also does good work. Especially on beaver.

They are slower than last year. 8 months and waiting.

Maybe I will give them a shot this year. Anybody have any experience with them? Turnaround time? Damage to pelts?

I got a confirmation letter for receiving fur last week from Moyles and the turn time is " 7 months or longer".

With moyles you get your own fur back and I'd send them the otter as well.Just make sure you have your cites tag on the otter.

You get your own pelts back from Moyles. If you are concerned, punch a small code in each pelt. Then you can double check when the pelts come back.

Use a small object, like a punch pin. Put your initials in a out of the way place, like between the front legs. The holes are small enough that they won't affect the appearance of the pelt but large enough that you can tell what they are. Make the letters about an inch tall. 8 or so punches per letter, depending on the letter.

The only advantage on shipping the mink and the otter together is that you will save on shipping. Should cost about the same to ship the mink with the otter s it would to ship the otter by itself.

If you are going to tan the otter, you will be very glad you unpleated the tail. smile

I just got back the fur I dropped off with Great Norther Fur at the WTA convention back in September. The turn around was under 3 months, so not that bad. I sent in 5 coyotes, 4 red fox, 2 grey fox, an otter and a fisher. The coyotes turned out good. The otter turned out great, as good as Moyles. The red fox were OK, and one of the greys was not very good but it was an earlier caught one. The fisher was not good, it had holes in the head that were not there when I fleshed it. Now with the good, the ears on the coyotes and fox were 10x better than Moyles ears. They aren't all wrinkled and stay up by themselves. The shipping is also cheaper with GNF because the use Speedy Delivery. Now all my fur I have sent in to Moyles have always come back in good shape. I would not hesitate to send a coyote or heavy leathered animal like otter or beaver to GNF but thinner skinned animals and ones with feet on I would send to Moyles. The last time I sent to Moyles it was 9 months turn around and that was May 2016 and got my furs back in February 2017. GNF has great customer service and I may go again but for now I will be going back to Moyles

Moyles is not the only one backed up. I shipped to Tubari in April. I called the other day and they said I would have them by January. No nock on them, they are just getting a lot of work.
I have sent to Moyles and been pleased until last year. They ruined some spotted skunks I sent so I'm trying Tubari. We'll see how that goes.

I took about 25 mixed furs to Tubari in Feb. When I ask about them all they will say is "we will send an invoice when they are done".
