Outside the box but these are great dogs to live outside and be very solid with you and your family. The sheep guys here in the mountains have used them for centuries. I know there are breeders in the states. They have long been a dog for staying in the mountains with sheep to guard against wolves. They are docile unless you mean harm. www.akc.org/dog-breeds/great-pyrenees/Good luck in your choice. Pete X2 on this breed for a outdoor dog, in the house not so much. They just have a LOT of hair. We had one back when I was raising goats. It was a fantastic dog, very quiet most of the time, gentle with the goats and very friendly. They are pretty pricey here in NY, but we found that in Ohio there are more goat farmers which means more Great Pyrenees dogs. We drove 8 hours each way but saved about 600 dollars over buying locally. They were easy to find in Ohio for about $50 at that time.

Chessie 's have a little edge to them

Basset hound had one for 14 years. She didnt bark only when playing and loved everyone. I miss her alot
The bitterness of poor quality last a lot longer than the sweetness of low price

Yep, my labs aren't truly happy unless some part of their bodies are touching some part of a family member (their pack); lying on someone's feet, leaning against a leg, working their heads under a hand..
Eh...wot?

Golden retrievers are awesome. Have grown up with them all my life very good tempered awesome family dog, usually awesome bird hunters.. especially waterfowl. My 17 y/o golden, Brandy has 3 legs and still goes trap checking with me! haha. My other golden Henry who passed away 2 years ago, was my best friend and backpacking partner. Couple times he would sneak up and snatch trout out of the lakes and eat them. Carried his backpack with his food and our fish and loved it. He had all my marten sets memorized and would find them year after year before I did, lol. None of my goldens have ever had an aggressive moment in their life. Have also been around lots of labs and huskies which are both also awesome dogs.

Just an update- we ended up going with a Great Pyrenees - she's 5 weeks in this picture, we bring her home in another 3. Appreciate all the feedback here. How you gonna feed that thing ? Might be cheaper to just shred dollar bills . And watch out for the huge land mines

Getting some pressure to get a pup for the wife and kids. Looking for an outdoor dog- 99.9% of the time anyway. Jeff
Why even get a dog if your going to keep him outside 99% of the time? Exactly...why bother....unless they are guarding sheep..Great Perinese (sp)
