A woman was killed and her husband seriously injured after a vicious mauling by two pit bulls on Christmas Eve in a Kentucky coal town.

Two Bell County deputies responded to the scene Sunday morning in Arjay and discovered the woman and her husband “had been savagely attacked” by two pit bulls, the sheriff's department said in a statement. Investigators said the husband managed to shoot the dogs afterwards, killing one of them.

The Bell County Coroner's Office said the woman who was killed was Lorraine Brock Saylor, 66.

WYMT-TV said her husband wsa Johnny Saylor.

The sheriff's department said a caller had reported his brother and sister-in-law were attacked by two of their neighbor’s dogs, WLEX-TV reported.

DEPUTIES WATCHED DOGS 'EATING RIB CAGE' OF VIRGINIA WOMAN, 22, DURING MAULING, SHERIFF SAYS

Lorraine Saylor was declared dead at the scene. Her husband was hospitalized, the station reported.

“The husband suffered wounds as well, but was able to shoot both dogs, killing one while the other ran off,” the department said.

The sheriff urged residents to be on the lookout for the injured dog.

“Under no circumstances are you to engage this dangerous animal,” the department said.[/quote]

Probably misidentified crossbreeds. Real PIT BULLS with a pedigree wouldn't do that.

Ignorant owners are the start of the problem!!! I heard of a family close to me that had one attack their infant child and about killed it. They still have the dog, just hide it when the social service people come to check on the welfare of the child. That kind of stupidity makes me stick!!!

I agree, however there has to be something in the DNA that causes these dogs to randomly and viciously attack, and not stop till the victims are dead. 2% of the dogs cause 76% of the fatal maulings.

If you order a dozen bridger dp's and they send a dozen dukes. Then complain about the dukes but labeling them as bridger... That ok?

you folks who think Pitts are the real deal, here are the facts, I'm 57 years old, have raised dogs my entire life, bear dogs, coon dogs, house dogs, cattle dogs, beagles, bassets, and Shepards, this is a fact.....99.5% of the homes with Pitts are into illegal activities, they have these dogs for a reason, they are unpredictable, you cannot read their body language like a normal dog, I don't care how docile you claim your dog is, its what they are capable of that makes them a menace, and you know that, yet you have them why? is the activities you need them to protect you from worth the liability? if so its just a matter of time before your in the hoosegow anyways.

Activities I need them for? I lock people up for those activities my man. Like a normal dog? As a teen I sat down next to my mother to watch tv, only to be bitten by her poodle. A lapdog named snowball. Lmao like a normal dog? C'mon mane.
