My ridge back lab cross is happy staying in the garage when it's cold. In fact she comes in the house and five minutes later she wants out there. I'd feel sorry for anyone tried to take her. They'd meet 73 pounds of teeth and fury.

When will they head to Alaska. They will be busy there. Idiots they are. My outside dogs used to push the straw out the door, onto the snow, then lay on top. Heated waterers. Food, and kids to play with on nice days. my two dogs are house dogs now. And I don't have a pack of hounds, so its inside dogs for us. At -8 this morning, they are out playing as much as they are inside. They like the snow.

This AM the blond lady says they are offering specials on doggy adoption as they are over capacity. Animal control officers helped them save 80 dogs over the weekend. Some of the dogs even had frozen water bowls. They even had a couple of huskys. Sounds like they take all dogs outside. The more people I hear talk on TV the smarter my dog seems. Just exactly where did they steal 80 dogs at? In Fontana? That sounds like something they would do in Lawrence.

People need to leave others alone. I know some dogs do not get taken care of properly, but most do. I was working on a powerline right of way in Iowa 3 years ago. I had to meet with all property owners as we entered thier property. I met with a guy that had a bunch of walkers chained up, with nothing more than a steel barrel to get into. No straw, carpet or anything. I watched those dogs quivering from the cold. They were under fed and just looked emaciated. It was sad. This person was a total jerk in my mind. Most people would not do that, and would take care of the hounds, that work hard to please the owner. Now going around to steal dogs that are outside is exactly that, STEALING. Thieves are thieves no matter thier reasoning.

We have a livestock guardian dog that HATES to come inside. The more snow the better in his mind! If someone came to take him have at 'er! We can't get him in the car if it meant drugging him! He is a 100 pound ball of fighting fur when it comes to things trespassing on his turf!
Taking a dog is wrong no matter what. If anyone comes for my dog's then go ahead and taste lead!

Some breeds do fine outside when properly cared for. But I see small house dogs kept outside around here and it makes me mad. I never could understand someone having a lap dog and not letting it in the house. Hunting dogs and work dogs are one thing, but some breeds were bred for companionship. My maltese woke up under the covers this morning, his job is to bark to let me know something aint right in the house , the rest is up to me. He is my companion not a tool. I understand some dogs are nothing but a tool to some people and that is fine if they are cared for, personally I see a lot of divine intervention in this one species of animal.

Plenty of dogs that are built for living outside...but some that clearly aren't.
There are Idiots on both sides of this topic. Dogs are comfortable outside if the outside is the climate the breed was developed in. Just like Alaskans being comfortable in long sleeve shirt and jeans in thirty five, forty degrees. People from more southern climates would be"cold" in their bubble rap "parkas". I agree stealing is what it is, but common sense is needed also. A short haired dog In single digits is miserable unless he is exercising and burning calories to stay warm.

We had a little dog that could not deal with the cold. Some days, he would be freezing in the house. He always stayed in a pile of blankets. I'd actually shovel a path in the snow, to the yard for his outhouse missions. His legs were about 4" long, so his junk would drag in the snow. If I did not make a path, he'd go where he hit deep snow, which was the edge of the garage floor. 4" of snow, he was belly deep, so I did what I had to do.

Private property. They better have their guns out. Unfortunately, if you brandish a gun while a humane officer is performing their duties, you are viewed as in the "WRONG" and are in deep trouble. Even if they enter your private property, the humane officer has the duty to inform, but after that you are in trouble if you resist. I'm not certain this applies to every state, but it does in most.

Wife has a little lap dog that lives in the house. She puts a dog sweater on it when its cold out. That dog does its business in a hurry when she lets it out on cold days even with a sweater. An outside dog acclimated to winter will immediately if not sooner start panting if you bring it into a heated environment. Plenty of food, a warm dry bed out of the wind, fresh water stead of ice a couple times a day, and dogs do fine outside all winter.

Me and a buddy were taking a whiz off a bridge once. He says to me, "That water is cold."
I told him, "It's deep too."
Eh...wot?

Sitting here watching the local news the other morning they usually have a veterinarian on there she’s always trying to get folks to adopt one of the dogs at their shelter, she mentioned how they have a city ordinance against leaving pets outside during cold weather. The news anchor ask how k9’s survived outside and her response was wolves have dens. Mind you this is an ohio news channel.
