They must of had room to store a Possum years ago. It sat up there for 5 years then brought $4.50, it was worth the wait. Yeah but you could've invested the 1-2$ for 5yrs somewhere else and been rich

I heard from a buyer in the room that the mink ranchers chipped in and bought alot of the firesale fur and were able to store it free of charge, after nafa telling the dealers they wont hold them. And I, once again, heard that was just a stupid rumor.

Beav, to answer your question, I have muskrat, mink, coon and my one otter. All taken after November 5th. That started my weeks vacation. Thanks for the responses everyone. I appreciate the advice.

Finished fur (stretched and dried) does not have to be frozen. NAFA dosen't store green fur. Well They do until It's finished by their contract fur handlers.
I have been In NAFAS drive In freezer here In WI. Like I said green fur Is held there till It's been finished. The finished fur Is baled and kept In a climate controlled storage facility. I have also been in NAFA's drive in freezer in Stoughton and yes my green coon were put in there with some of the incoming frozen ranch mink that were coming in for NAFPRO. The stretched and dried wild fur, that must have been in Stoughton since May or June, was not in the freezer and was just piled in racks (I believe these were on wheels) that were at the time not in the freezer and were looking a bit stale. They don't grade in Stoughton, so why would they be baled Beav?

If they don't grade in Stoughton, where do they grade? I believe in Toronto with the Canadian and Alaska fur. Only hearsay. Don wrote on tman they were sizing rats in Stoughton now.

That's what I thought, you don't know what your talking about.lol When I went on the NAFA tour in Stoughton about 7 years ago, I was never shown any wild fur grading area or told by NAFA personnel that wild fur was graded in Stoughton. The tour consisted of showing me the ranch mink processing facility that appears to be the main purpose of the facility. Not saying that some wild fur is not now graded in Stoughton. I'm not even sure that all U.S. receiving agents ship their fur to Stoughton. Do you want to share your personal observations of wild fur grading in Stoughton? Thanks!

So here's what happens.
The fur that Is received In WI Is sorted graded. Then hides that represent those grades are separated from the majority of the Individual lots. These are the show pieces. They are shipped to the auction to be viewed by the potential buyers. The rest of the fur Is kept here In the States until that fur has been sold. Then It's shipped directly to the buyer from Stoughton WI.
This fur has been baled and Is sitting In a warehouse. Like I said before this fur Is finished so It dosen't need to be frozen. So fur that Isn't sold on several auctions eventually Is shipped to Canada and stored there. I don't know what kind of a facility they have there for long term storage.

NAFA
"STORING PELTS After the pelts have been removed from the boards they should be hung in a cool, dry place out of the reach of animals. Smaller pelts can be stored in the freezer to prevent them from going stale. This should be done in the case of wild mink, which oxidize easily. Otter pelts must be kept in a cool location to prevent singeing. Pelts stored in areas that are too warm or in the light will turn stale. Pelts stored over the summer should also be kept in a cool, dark area or preferably wrapped and stored in a freezer to avoid bug damage."
FHA
" After fleshing and drying, pelts should be shipped to market as soon as possible. If you must store pelts for long periods they should be placed in a freezer. For short periods of storage, keep in a dark, cool dry room. Pelts may be wrapped lightly in newsprint, stored in burlap or nylon bags or hung from hooks or rafters. Ship to market in clean bags or cardboard boxes, never in plastic bags.."
