Are you trappers planning on sending fur up for the February sale or are you going to hold off until the March sale?

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Thanks. I meant the May sale, not the March sale. I just wondered if it would be more profitable to sell in May.

I do not believe in holding fur for any specific sale. If you have fur ready and a sale is coming up; SHIP IT. IMO you will average out better in the long run. Besides, the auction houses have the proper facility for holding and storing fur if it does not sell.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I will ship mine next week when the truck comes by. I am letting the staff at NAFA choose when they feel my fur will bring the best prices which is beneficial to both parties. If it takes an extra 6 months or more so be it. I started putting money in my 403B 43 years ago and did not take the first out until 2015.

I have read that both Auction houses do not have proper (freezer) cold storage facilities to store fur and prevent it going stale. Could be internut B.S. Have you actually seen either Auction's long term storage facilities? Thanks!

Should hope so...had some random grey fox sitting up there for 4 years before selling. I'd think they had it somewhere where the bugs and the heat and air would be off it.

Curious about that too. Freezers are expensive to run. What temperature would they be held at?

They must of had room to store a Possum years ago. It sat up there for 5 years then brought $4.50, it was worth the wait.

When I say the auction houses have the proper facilities for storing fur that,s what I have been told and have no reason to not believe it. They are in the business to make money also so why would they not have the proper facilities???

Why would you need to freeze put up fur for years when you can control temps, air flow and more importantly humidity with a lot lower cost and flexibility?

What temperature are they trying to maintain? Lowering temperature is what refrigeration units do.

Bryce read your conditional of sales. Check both internut sites and see if they mention anything about their long term storage capabilities.

I don't know. I was responding to the statement regarding freezers and wondering why they would need to freeze fur for as long as many claim they keep it. How much of what we ship in January gets put in a freezer until Feb or March or May? I bet not much if any.
Somebody who sells to GWF could ask as when I talked with Guy this fall they had coons stored that are 3-4 years old.

Finished fur (stretched and dried) does not have to be frozen.
NAFA dosen't store green fur. Well They do until It's finished by their contract fur handlers.

I have been In NAFAS drive In freezer here In WI. Like I said green fur Is held there till It's been finished.
The finished fur Is baled and kept In a climate controlled storage facility.
