Saw three owls within 3/4 miles at 5pm hunting in a short grown up grass area.
Never saw that many hunting in a small area before.

I've seen short eared owls get together like that in a single field in the late afternoon. I only saw them like that one winter. They perched on top fence posts around the field.

My neighbor had some guinea chickens and the horned owls used to line up in the woods next to his house right before dusk for supper...
We've had 2 barred owls hanging around our hay field for months. Must be a lot of mice out there.
This is one from last spring...

Great Horned, will not leave an area if food is adequate--unfortunately,it's muskrats they are dining on--when open water is here.
