I just did my first beaver and ripped the castor sack on one side trying to get the membrane off. Is it still good? It's only a small ripe but can see it's inside good enough.

Super Glue The Hole Shut !!

Or Just Press The Edges Of The Tear Together and Hang on a Wire Till It Dries.

Yes,

Dry The Castor Out And then Grind It Up Into A Powder, Then Tincture It By Mixing It With Some 190% Proof Grain Alcohol.

The Alcohol Will Dilute & Spread Out the Castor Odor and Help It Go a Long way (Toward Making Many Sets)

Milk The Oil Out Of The Oil Sack Glands Into a Small Bottle With Eye-Dropper, Use One Drop At A Set For A Change Up Odor. The Sack Oil should have a Fixing Agent added to It To prevent It From spoiling.

Opinions Vary.

I Have Stored Clean Sack Oil In The Refrigerator Without Adding A Preservative Before And Had It Turn Rank & Foul In The Past.

Since Then, I Have Always Added Some Table Salt To The Oil and Mixed Well.

Make Sure You Use A Plastic Eye Dropper Cap so It Does Not Rust Shut On You.

If You Check The Lure Formulators Forum, There Are Literally Dozens Of Posts Regarding Beaver Oil Sack Glands & Beaver Sack Oil.

I'd Check Them Out As This Resource Is A Wealth Of Knowledge.

Good Luck.

When drying castors, don't forget to flip them every couple days so that they can dry evenly.

Pine, as far as a fixative, the castor is a fixative in it's self.

Pine, I use castors as a lure by cutting fresh ones (not dried) into a few pieces then running a couple pieces at a time through a cheap coffee grinder. They can't handle much at once but it only takes a few minutes to do one set of castors. Throw all that in a jar and add glycerine until it's about like peanut butter. I just add a new set of castors whenever it looks low and it just keeps on working for me.
