Is it possible that an automatic garage door can malfunction in cold weather? This morning when I hit the remote it opened, but would not close, I had to close it manually.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Sometimes something may fall over when you open it . It doesn't take much to break the beam. It could be a wire loose just check the photo eyes make sure they read each other. I have seen them frost up in extreme cold because the garage is warmer and if the door is left open very long.

My indicator lights (green) are solid and not flashing. Nothing fell over. How do you tell if the photo eyes read each other? Would they be a different color or be flashing if not?

Check your batteries, might be weak and the cold effects them! Mine work down to the deep cold with no problems.

I know nothing about door openers, but you could put something between them and see if your light changes?
If it changes, probably not your problem. X2 I usually just put my leg between them and see if it changes

Mine has been acting the same as yours during this cold snap. It will always go up but sometimes it will take it a few times to get it to go down. Nothing in the way of my sensors. I attribute it to the severe cold putting unusual pressure on the door itself in the joints and rollers. This cold sux. My heat pump running constant can only keep my house at 66 degrees when it gets this cold for this long. Not trying to change the subject switch it to emergency heat. NOW before people start saying it will eat you up in electric THEY DON"T USE AS MUCH than regular cycle because the unit and fan NEVER shut off in this cold.

My wife working just fine, door went right up. My wife wasn't working in this cold - I had to adjust those two knobs on top , then the door opened ...

My closers are very old and I think why the only issues have in batteries. Do not have all the bells and whistles.Only problem I have had though is wifey barely bumping it and had to replace the bottom panel lately!

didn't read all posts but many of the motors have a thermo overload. If the motor got hot from trying to lift the door in the cold, it may have tripped the overload and after it sits for a while, resets and should go down with the remote or the wall switch.

Mine opens and closes fine in this cold snap, just a little sluggish.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.
