Has anybody sold any rats lately? If so what are the tops and averages? I had heard Groeny upped his top price to $7-what about guys like Weibke? Just trying to gauge where the market is at is all-since there is going to be a lower harvest from what I have heard-it may bring things up?

I probably would not get to terribly excited about rat prices, they are not going to make a measurable move upwards when female brown ranch mink are still only worth 10 bucks or less. There's a LOT of mink coming up for sale in Europe this season. The price should go up now because the best rats are only starting to be caught.

Wiebke is 5 4 3 as of yesterday. Gronys top is 6 but that will take a good rat.

I think I’ll just concentrate on catching the $7.00 ones.

As stated earlier, there are no $7 rats unless Groney just went up again.

The rat price is tied to the ranch mink price. The harvest has very little influence on the price. Have you seen a muskrat coat lately? No way! They are mostly used for lining expensive mink garments. That really hurts the price paid for NY rats or Michigan thumb rats. These are the best in the country, but who cares? Same with beaver. They turn the good ones into felt, same as the junk ones. It is what it is!Happy new year.

On another forum there was a report of a buyer in Western WI that paid and average of $3.45 to a trapper with over 1700 rats. That price fits the ranges we have been seeing on the prices posted or anticipated. If that is all in with fall rats that is not too bad even if it was a good collection.

I was going to sell to Groeny but if Grozny is paying that much, I’ll have to reconsider.

Over a $5 average is pretty good for Ohio rats. A little more work catching them when they are fully prime and under ice, but good fun!

I'm assuming that you mean Groney?
