Today I caught this - My first under ice beaver! Now I can hear you northern boys asking what kinda drugs is this fool on? You may have caught thousands of beaver under the ice but you've never done it in ALABAMA! I is the worlds greatest under ice trapper! Truly, I find it kinda weird walking on ice in Alabama.
Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.

Impressive. We had a nice warm -18f this morning and I decided to stay in instead of making sets.
Wish I had more time to trap....

Impressive. We had a nice warm -18f this morning and I decided to stay in instead of making sets. Screwy weather this year, 43 in Boise, Id a week ago, 17 in Kazoo Monday, 20 at my place in Tn & 13 at my tropical vacation spot in Al. It went up to 34 here yesterday, I was working in my shirt sleeves and the locals were fixin to call the loony wagon.

You also have to get wet to be a good beaver trapper. Did you know that going thru the ice and ending up with only your head and right arm out provides son-in-laws with way to much entertainment?

I say embrace it. You don't have these conditions all the time, and now you can look around and see rat and beaver runs like never before. Great catch, do more of it. Another thing is you should always carry your light, narrow (1 1/2" chisel ) with you at all times when traversing the ice, for sounding the ice and also for laying crosswise quick as you are going down. A rifle works too, lol...try not to bump the scope .
