I'm looking for any advice or suggestions to help me catch my first fox.

To start off I'm trying to catch a red or reds that are coming through my yard frequently. I live in the country and have farm fields around my yard and blocks of timber near by. Last week it was below zero everyday and he would come through my yard every night. On Monday I made two dirt hole sets and a blind set by bait close to areas where he is traveling. The last two days have been a lot warmer and more warm weather is to come (30s and 40s with rain). The last two nights there has been no new fox sign and I don't know if the warm weather has him acting funny. I expected to at least have him come through the yard and check out the sets.

My gut says to give it more time, but is there something I should be doing differently?

Thanks for your input!

Did you tell the fox you have put the sets out for him?

I would stay away from the sets and wait it out.

I've been trying to get a fox for two years and no connection so take this for what it's worth.

Last year I would find some fox tracks and put in a set only to not have anything visit for weeks. this year I found fox tracks and followed them back until I found tons of sign, daily tracks, urine, scat, dug holes. I put my sets there and although I didn't have any commit I had tons of fox checking out my sets.

Put in a dirthole and fill with sardines and dog food let the fox dig it out and feed a couple nights and then add the trap to it.

Thanks for your input. Last week I was throwing out squirrel and other meat to get him coming through and used to the bait. I mimicked that with the blind set.

Patience, fox are greedy and stupid. If you're traps are functional a dirt hole set should catch them.

check your traps after this warm spell. Turning freezing again and make sure they are working and not froze down. This weather sucks.

I was thinking the same thing. I think that -20 degree weather might be better for trapping than this freeze thaw and rain.
