Good to see the very small price difference on color on those coons that sold. It would be nice to have better prices but it sure seems that size and grade are the big drivers on those that were sold there and not color. A $3 dollar drop from good to poor color on $18 coons is acceptable to me. Now we wait to see what happens in the future auctions. It would be nice to see what the prices were for the very limited rats that sold. What were the better going for compared to average or ordinary. There may not have been enough sales to even make quotes but that just adds to the unknown that much longer and not only for fur shippers but those taking pelts to local auctions and or buyers.

What does it mean when it says the averages are "1st section pelts"

1st section pelts are the better goods - 1s, 2s and slights.

Section III goods - damages, low grades, slippers - are not included in the sale average.

$10 avg per beaver for the castor is about right on BP.I always count my castors and divide it by the total price, and $10 avg per all in is what I got.

It appears the demand for heavy western coyote has spilled over to the better Eastern grades, at least on this sale. With just over 50% clearance it is pretty clear which half they let go, but the the advancement over last year on the Eastern section is good news. Now let's see how it holds up with a significantly larger offering at NAFA.

And F H said all summer that the coon market was stronger......yep, sure looks like it.

I'll continue to trust reports from reputable souces.

Look at It this way.

They only sold 35% and normally they are selling the better goods. So If better goods sold at a $12.00 average that's not good.

But since FHA didn't post the different grades and those prices we don't know for sure.
It's tough to make any money on $12.00 coon.

Checking the averages at FHA for the last 4-5 years, the January auction results show that castor is increasing by exactly $5 a pound for that time period in January. Bad thing is the overall average for beaver skins is still going down.

No It Isn't.

I'm doubting you can take $10.00 worth of castor off one beaver. Probably a third of those beaver are going to have shells and It takes a lot of shells to get you $10.00. All beaver aren't created equal.
Boco I think your living some kind of daze.LOL

I doubt boco is off by much on that figure Beav. If you set mostly for adults and have a decent run, I averaged about 8 bucks per beaver in Castor a couple years back and prices are higher now. Some beaver certainly have less than ten bucks in castor but more than a few have quite a bit more than that.
