Tactical20 posted about doing a heater core in his truck. Thought I would post the one I am doing at work right now. Its a 2006 Buick mini van. Had to pull it this far apart to get the cover off to get the core out.

Which is easier than most, usually you have to pull the heater box completely oit and change the core on a work bench.

I always laugh and tell people you have to be a little off mentally to work on modern cars for a living, that or really like jigsaw puzzles.

The engineers wouldn't design them like that (buried heater cores etc.) if they had to work on them.

I hate to think what the bill is going to be on that repair. Its ridiculous the way they build some of this stuff. Heater cores don't go out while they are still under warranty so what do the manufacturers care?

It books as a 4 hour job, but that wont affect me because I am paid hourly. Took me about 2.5 hours to get the core out on the bench. So will probably be 5-6 hours in it when I am done.

Almost impossible to go that far and something not break. Just have to make sure its not something structural or an important bolt hole.

My wifes car was in the shop a few years back, and the mechanic slipped with a ratchet and broke the windsheild. They were not happy campers!

I know you guys don't understand engineers. And, that it is easy to blame them when you are in the middle of a "big" project like that.

But, if you were to think about it logically, a 4 or 5 hour repair on something that lasts a decade seems like a fair trade off. Where would you have located it? On top of the dash?

If it weren't for engineers you mechanix would all be unemployed. smile

thats the truth. In all honesty though the engineer is just given pararmeter to build a certain part, he does not have the benefit of seeing or designing the entire vehicle.

If the guy who owns that is a friend of yours (or someone you dont want to be friends with) you should tie a dead fish up in there before you put it back together! laugh
