For a king sized bed you will need about 20 that are x-l or larger. I trapped a bunch about 10 years ago for a buddy and they used all 20.

Many places to buy them , I would call these places and see if you can use your own beaver . Glacier wear, I think uses yours . True North Furs Adirondack blankets

If you want one that looks good, dont use a trappers lot of beaver.Buy a graded and sized lot from Nafa or fha.All the pelts will be the same size, colour, grade and quality and you will get a much nicer finished product.A trappers lot of 20 beaver will be mismatched in size, colour, clarity, and grade, and likely wont even tan up uniformly. 25 LM beavers will give you an nice size blanket, and wont cost very much at the auction house right now.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

When I have skins dressed I almost always use Moyles, However, the beaver I've had tanned at Moyles seem to have fairly heavy leather which is fine for most uses. But the skins I had dressed several years ago by a different fur dresser where shaved much thinner than how Moyles does it which made a much lighter-weight blanket.
You might want to ask Moyles if they have a specific garment tan process for beaver which results in a thinner leather. If you send your beaver to Moyles or any place else, be sure you request a garment tan, and open up the leg holes, otherwise Moyles will leave the leg holes closed on beaver when they receive them from trappers since that's how trappers usually want them done.

I have had a beaver blanket for years. 6 of my own beaver, probably 60'' ers, trimmed with a nice wide coyote border. It pretty much covers the top of a queen size bed. Need to keep the window cracked to keep it cool enough to use and even then it can be too warm. It's not so big that you can't just toss it aside in the the night. It's not huge, looks good and fill s the bill. I should add we have a lot of furriers in Alaska and I had it made locally.

I have used USAFoxx for 4 years. I have only the very best things to say about them. I used another for somethings and it was nowhere near the quality in the tanning or the construction. USAFoxx contracts out their tanning. I am good with that because the people tanning only do tanning, not some guy doing it a week or two a year. They are commercial high end fur clothing producers for rich clientele, and their product shows that. With a hat, not so picky, but a blanket is something I want perfect. It changed hands to a pair of brothers owning it now. I am postive every fur I sent I got back as I mark them after hearing on here the horror stories of previous years. I will put a pick with sizes and the number of pelts. The to add silk backing it is $65-$200 depending on size. The ultimate softness is a plucked and sheared beaver blanket, but it doubles tanning prices. Realize beaver is extremely warm. As said above, you'll crack the window open.

Fur Arts in Kansas City did one for a friend of mine about 15 years ago. Moyles did the tanning for him on 20 or 21 XL and larger beaver that I took off the Missouri River. We picked through about 50 beaver and matched them as best we could. He had a spread made for a king sized bed and it is a real beauty. I wish I had pictures to post.
