I know this is brought up before, but can't find posts

I want to buy a rope along and store in my sleds. I would like to get a fair amount of rope
The biggest I can find is 3/4 ton. Would like to buy the strongest as I have a Wide Track sled and full of slush could be a lot of drag

Please enlighten me what I should get

The rope along has a 1500 lb limit. You have to get 1/2 inch rope in order for it to operate correcty. I know this by experience in trying to cut costs. Any half decent half inch rope you get would be all of that. There is a good facebook post on the rope along going on now if you join the ATA facebook site.

Ross BealGroup Admin Scotty Lane 27-29 I think. The rope is the best and really overkill for a Rope-a-long rated at 1000 lbs but we'll never hurt it for sure.

Temple Dillard I’ve buried my Polaris Ranger while plowing, really had to throw my weight into the handle to get it out. It does skip if it’s not tight enough to start, but a yank on the tag end gets it cranking right. Was worse when it was newer, but the half inch rope was still useable.

Len Fabich Okay I think I was confusing Bluesteel with Amsteel. ;0) 1/2 Amsteel has a 34,000 lb load stength and is much slicker line than than what is in the photograph. I carry a 20 foot or so foot of 3 braid 1/2 line and 100 feet of 1/4 inch amsteel with a load limit of 7000 lbs. It takes up a very little room for a long run. Elwin Lawler Will call at A.I.H. was the best price for the rope-a-long for me. They give a discount for union members that have their dues paid current, military discount as well. J.R. said he priced check before the meeting and Samson's had best price in fifty dollar range.

Jr Pederson Len Fabich The problem with carrying 20' of workable rope is you can only move less than 20' before having to re-rig and start again. I understand the thought with carrying smaller which doesn't take up so much room. I carry 100' of 1/2" and couple hundred feet of mule tape to extend the reach.

Ross BealGroup Admin No room on the seat of these newer machines for this kind of thing. Tons of room on the seat of the older Skandics for a large packer to hold gear plus a large trap box in the cargo rack. I hate pulling a sled on my tight brushy trails but early on while setting the line I'll drag it out, leave it in a central location to work out of on my short line Throw traps in the box for a short loop and return.

The rope they sell with it is 1/2 inch. It might accommodate larger but for sure don't go smaller. It will slip.

Old long line works good - if you know any fisherman. As FT said, hollow braid or too small diameter and it slips. AIH carries them and always included them in their Dec. Christmas sale. They are not listed in this years sale brochure.

I don't bring a come along or rope along with any more. Got a Hitch Master ( Hitch Master ) and 200 feet of 1/4" Amsteel rope from West Marine ( AmSteel Blue ). Laminated the instructions and it is all very light and the rope has a 4000lbs breaking strength and is easy to use. You can use one hand to pull on the sled and the other to goose the throttle.

One of the best purchases I have made for getting unstuck or pulling something out.

Didn't know they were not making the HitchMaster any more. Too bad, as I think it works great. Wonder if they didn't sell, or if they can't find someone to make them at a decent price.

I better join that ATA FB page! The hitchmaster guy used to sell at shows here in Fbks. Knew I had bought a set. Had to look and found it!! Yea! Keep it with the snowmobile stuff now. Looks like a guy could make a hitchmaster deal with a little work and heat for bending.

Well heck now I want one and can't get one! Cause I know I will have a use for one. haha

I have used mine twice to help get a machine stuck out of a hole when I had to go do a line check without the partners and we had a bunch of snow and I got stuck. Worked as intended, so I am not complaining. I wonder if Ross used it right. I laminated the instructions as there was no way I was remembering how that sucker all went. You can also see how it works on that sight with the video's they had posted.

I also threw in a couple of seine rings with it. My intention for them was if we ever had to do the moose rodeo, but luckily I have never had to do that.

The wire tite system works good. Complicated to do rite. A simple bend works good for air compressor fittings. Or reinforcing a handle. Lot of uses.

I actually use 3/8" aqualine ( medium lay groundline) with very few slip issues, but also carry 100 feet 1\2" braided . Most times I need it to get up a bank 30-40 feet
