Is there a list of kennels that specialize in trap line and decoy dogs? I’ve searched the internet and haven’t had much luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Mt. Cur is a pretty good breed for decoying, there is a fella here in Wyoming that breeds them. Here ya go
http://www.wyomountaincurs.com/
he is a trapper too and takes his dogs EVERYWARE. One thing i can tell ya about a cur is hat i am gettin' one. If i lived out of town i would have three, I hunt lions and bobs with dogs so more is better. Especially in wolf country.
Curs are very cross-trainable. You can teach 'em to shed hunt, bay pigs(if that's yer thing),tree anything that will run up a tree, trail blood, and on and on. Another good breed is the Airedale, they are good bird dogs as well.
I have owned more hounds than i care to count and just rescued a "high-tan" hound-cur cross from a shelter. She is gonna be a good dog. I will be getting a pup out of his next litter as well. Good luck !!!

I got a cur from a local guy that uses the parents for decoying coyotes. My dad picked up an airedale/jack russell cross from a Govt. hunter/trapper in Montana and I just picked up another pup that is a jagd/bull terrier/airedale cross from a Govt. hunter/trapper in Colorado. If I were you I'd try to get in touch with a govt. guy and see when they will be getting pups.

I agree with what HTF307 stated. Except I used a foundation bred black mouth cur, instead.

My girl was incredible for the trapline and started working when she was extremely young. She would shut down and bay cattle, tree, started to point pheasant and quail, locate dens, toilets, you name it. Just a little encouragement and she did it. I even got her to dig potatoes for me out of the garden this last summer.I don't think there's anything she couldn't have done. And was an excellent buddy dog, aswell. She went everywhere with me.

I'm sad to say, she got hit in December at 8 1/2 months old and I just haven't hardly been able to trap ever since. I will be getting a full sister to her this next breeding. And mark my words, if I can help it, I will never be without one of these dogs again.

Red,
I’m very sorry to hear about your loss. She sounded special and is exactly what I’m looking for.

Sounds like she's got the makings of a trap line dog. Did you get your cur here in Indiana?

yes but the gentleman , Donnie Gill, was killed in an ATV accident this summer and his wife sold or move all of the dogs out. Mine is bred for squirrel hunting and she does like them.

Yeah, she was truely something. I don't think I could ever say enough good about her, from her workability to her personality. I think that if you make them your buddy, they will do about anything for you. And if you are interested in one of these dogs, PM me. I would be happy to give you a couple names of guys who are reputable breeders. Most people use their bloodlines for cattle or hogs, but from my limited experience, they are working dogs. And they work what you want them to.
