When do toms start looking for mates? Ive got 6 weeks of season left and just got some time off to trap.

Well don't go so far as to ask me anything that specific. I'm just a book smart cat trapper. Actually catching them is almost beyond me. I've caught two. Total. Ever.

However, the idea of setting traps everywhere you think a cat might show up sounds good to me.

Caught a nice female yesterday and she was definitely in heat! You can smell it!

Find tracks. Build a fence. don't depend on scent alone.

Technically they are looking for them all year. A female will go in heat when her kittens are old enough to be alone or after a Tom kills them. But I believe majority of them are ready to breed in April, but those toms will start checking them now.
