I did that a couple years. If you painted them now I bet the coyote is gonna sniff them.

I don't spray mine and I seem to do Ok.
I did spray 2 this year just for the heck of It and I did catch a coyote In each of them but I think It's a waste of time.

They have to air out after but sure you can. I put acetone in a wide flat pan and swish them in it to clean off oil. Hang to dry 10 minutes then spray. Not too heavy on the paint, doesn't take much. Osky

I have painted some snares for years..... and don't paint some at all but leave them in weather for a year, they will dull. Usually do it at least a year in advance. Usually paint them LIGHTLY..... Lay them down all stretched out and really close together. Paint LIGHTLY, let dry and do the other side the next day. Usually paint mine brown (match crp grass) or tan( creek grass). Works great. I am sure if you get too much paint on them it could slow the snares down or cause the lock not to be very effective.

yes. Lightly and you will be fine. Air them out well ^^this, but I paint mid-summer...plenty of time for odor dispersal. For now, I'd probably give them the baking soda boil , BUT, then another clean water boil.

I've never done anything to remove the oils from the production process, I've always felt they would rust inside out and be worth less. They always work for me. But I don't do anything to them but load them.
Can't see how misting them with color before the season would hurt a thing, most animals know somethings up at sets, cause one has been there a time or two.
Snares setup's air out pretty quickly and your usually checking them from a distance or looking for a flagging thats missing. A snare is supposed to be hidden and not disturbed when set, not like a trap set usually with a hole and dirt thrown all over, LOL
However I'm of the belief that there is an over whelming sense of scent contamination on trapping and snaring that is way over thought !

I for one don't believe that coyotes for one example are even close to being near sighted !
I'm also of the frame of mind that colored animals see color and non-colored animals see in the shades of their colors, basically grey's, browns, and blacks. Why would an animal seeing color not be colored when it's not needed, verses others being colored for them to mate and see male and female. Kinda goes along with antlered animals, they all look the same until rutting, with the exception of scent.
However thats neither here nor there for snare set ups, as if they are properly set and blended the dogs or cats would never notice them on their way about. It's only the scent that would cause them a sudden stop or change up, yes seeing them would make them change as well, during daylight, however I am talking properly set up, not just thrown out to hope they set !

i don't know one way or the other. I do think canines see in 2-D, and i do know that a cat can spot some things a LONG ways away. Like a single hackle feather on fishing line.

In a pinch couldn't you just spear the snares with some mud? Idk, just thinking if one has new snares and wants to get them hung..painting isn't an option do to not having time for the snares to air out....

Thought I was a good trapper until I started trapping coyotes...... Thought I was a good bowhunter until I targeted mature bucks....
