And you don't think your paying a commission when you sell to a country buyer?
It's called profit.

From past experience what has been the difference in finished pelts versus green pelts price for the hatter market? Obviously can't pay the same per pound but I'd assume these folks can just about guess the weight difference based on size.

Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.

Yea but his money isn't tied up in a warehouse HOPING it sells. . How many farmers would stay in business if they operated like NAFA. Hold it in a bin . Sell 200 bushel this month. Keep it until next year PT another 100 bushel. That way of selling fur is crap. I would think after the hundreds of pelts were sent and laid up there until it was sold or fire sale That every one would want to sell to a cash in hand buyer.

But when he left he wasn't holding on to "when will I get paid ". He had the money in his hand. The auction used to be a way to get a premium price if you had a perfect piece. But with all the hold over and not knowing that has happened it seems to have lost its luster. Just my opinion. Not going to bash someone for sending it up there . So you guys don't need to bash someone for want cash in hand

Your comparing fur to row crops?

I have sold to country buyers and I have sold through the auction process. And over the years I will tell you I have done way better selling through the auctions.

NAFA FHA have been around forever and are still going strong so they must be doing something right when It concerns fur.
Maybe that should take up selling beans and corn. LOL

For some of us money in hand makes money. Each to his own. Didn’t say I sold everything today. Generally observation today as follows. If it’s both very prime and very well put up send North. If it doesn’t meet BOTH then take your money and book!

NAFA was incorporated in 1992.

FHA was incorporated in 1991.

Groenwald has been around longer.

A lot of farmers sell their crops or production even before it is produced and yes many sell smaller amounts over time to avoid hitting market lows etc. Also many do have much in storage hoping for higher prices. That inventory for many is their money in the bank for either higher prices or for cash as needed for unplanned expenses etc. Farmers have a lot of experience not taking what is offered by one vendor on one day and marketing all of it at that time.

As I Said Above,

No Idea What Was Payed To Other Trappers With The Green Skinned, Frozen Beaver.

The Buyer Did State Previously That Because They Have A Machine That Can Process Green Beaver For Around A

Dollar Each, They Would Only Pay Two Dollars More For A Put Up Beaver.

I Told The Buyer That The Current Going Rate For Hatters was $6.00 To $7.00 A pound For Maine, New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, And Minnesota Beaver and He Agreed.

I Have Not Sold A Green Skinned Pelt Since 1982 When I Sold A Bunch Of Green Coon To A Traveling Buyer Who Was Paying Top Dollar.

I know a guy who bashes NAFA cause he once only go 30 cents or his coon. Fact if it is a dink and not prime or poorly put up it isn't worth much. NAFA doesn't make any money selling out fur for nothing. So they try to sell for as much as they can, while groney will try to low ball you can cherry pick the lot.
