The few I've found are solid. Unlikely for me to get any this late in the game.

4. Should be 5, but somehow toe caught one.heard him dive in as I started opening and when I pulled the chain I got a toe. Scouted another area and found about 40 huts on about 20 acres. Only problem is 1/2 mile walk before I get to the first hut. I'll Get em, just gonna have to give myself a pep talk. At 38 through the ice now, if I go set all those I might get my hundred yet.

Here is a few pictures from Sundays check. With the terribly warm weather they haven't moved very good lately. Saturday i finally found some fresh track to set in and had this tripod coyote and male red the next day. The red was taken on a mafia style blind set. The coyote is rubbed up pretty good tho. Anybody seeing and coon tracks out yet?

I took my boy out this past weekend, we got a couple but I found most huts frozen up tight but I may have just not found the right spots. Going to make a better probing tool and head back out. The ones we did get were all large adults.

How do you guys find the quickest way into a hut without digging? I find myself spending more time than I'd like, particularly on big huts, digging into huts to discover the hole is on the other side. I've taken my stake and just started pounding, but I've also found that sometimes when the stake doesn't feel like it hits a hollow, there is still an active hole in the hut and I'm just not hitting the right spot. Takes me about 5-10 minutes to find the hollow typically, and then about 1 minute to finish the set after that point. If I could find a way into the huts quicker, I'd become a heck of a lot more efficient.

Going to set a few huts in the morning, haven’t had rat sets out since the deep freeze. With the warm weather now it should be decent going.

"Anybody seeing and coon tracks out yet?"

Seen a set yesterday along the edge of a swamp but didn't look like he strayed to far from his tree though.
Very little coyote sign the last few days and the snow is going quickly making it even tougher finding it. Deer have been moving and messing with what few snares I do have out but will keep after the coyotes as long as the fur is good. Wishing now that I would have gone after some rats this fall but that's all water under the bridge now.

Set of coon tracks from a very large boar checked out a couple of my rat huts, then headed across the field.

#4 vic/monty offset dogless right there. Blind set in the trail.

Eric, I've never trapped a hut this late, but I always start on the south side, I guess.

I am making a probe for checking huts after freeze up, 3/8th cold rolled sharpened and put in a wood handle. I think it will help me find the runs faster without tearing up the hut too much.

That's what I use...but I welded a T handle to it. Paint it flo orange...you'll need it. And make 2.

Nice pictures guys!

Finally got out a few traps. First order of business was to eliminate the competition for not sealing up huts properly!

Seal up the hut nicely, a mink can go in right behind you, lol.
