So every YouTube video I watch all I hear is how EASY these animals are to trap. I have all the stuff to trap them too, 110s with holders, and colonies, however I just can’t find anywhere to trap them. Does anyone have any tips on finding them via google maps. I want to take one of my bucket list, I even made a little flyer and put them in peoples mailboxes with ponds asking if they had any Muskrat problems. Basically my question is how should I go about finding these rats ? How do you guys find yours?

Drive by waterways and if there are cattails and you see little brown domes in and around the cattails then those are muskrat huts/pushups, if there are no cattails then they will use bank dens and those you need to go to the water's edge and start looking for them, if there is ice on the water look for bubble trails that will lead you to their dens.

Take a long sunday drive and be prepared to knock on doors. Irrigation ditchs and lakes are prime areas to start. Most decent sized creeks will hold rats just tougher to find large populations. But colony traps in pinch points are the fastest way to find them by pinch points I mean small riffels. Dont be scared to block them down to suit your needs. Bottom edge sets are killer on rats, and you might snag a traveling mink as a bonus

Aren't most of the rats In your part of the country found In tidal marshes? Most of us have no expertise In trapping rats In that type of habitat.
Better find a local that can help you out.

Throw a sub trap with a black funnel entrance into the pond and the rats, if any are there, will find it.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.
