Colin Cale bought the top lot. But there was another lot of 30 that brought $100 and it was bought by Rick Mittleider. I had 487 coyotes prices and they brought 85.45 average. 89 coyotes on the round went for $53.33 So those guys only left $30 a head on the table for not skinning. 64 red fox 22.71 - 107 coon 12.50

Exactly. That is how most trapper sales work. Pelts are offered in trapper lots. $105.00 for a typical trapper lot is pretty good. IMO
Exactly! That's a trappers average and not just his top coyotes. North Dakota produces some pretty fancy extra heavy, very pale coyotes. Most yote trappers on here catch skins from further south.

Joe, yes they were put up. There were a few that sold on the round, but it was a pretty small sample. They went for about $11.25

The statements to me that ring loud are there is a 60% increase in value to put up and handle a decent western coyote. %80-down to $50. If a person lived in western SD and put up say 2000 yotes they could make 40-50K staying at home, not checking traps, driving or anything.

tbn what is the Hmmm about? Our coon run very large. I am more likely to have a 5X than a L. So since size matters, they do well.

That’s interesting. If the high coyote was 105that makes me wonder about the earlier report that one trapper sold 94 and averaged 105? That would mean he averaged the high and that doesn’t sound right.
Other interesting notes, I guess my fur buyer is shooting pretty straight with us. Offering 50-70 on coyotes in the round, 10-15 for coon in the round, and he didn’t want any Fox which I was surprised by but is confirmed since the one carcass Fox was a no sale. Still with an average on coyotes of 85 and coon at 17 and I have 14 and 4respectively so far I better get to work...

There were 94 coyotes in the highest average lot. That lot sold for 105 average. The fur was sold in trapper lots by species.

Here is something to think about. The 94 coyotes in the top lot were trapped. Most the coyotes on the sale were snared. Our snaring season opens after deer season. I would guess he started around the end of October. There were a fair number of coyotes on the sale that were rubbed and broke. I did not grade any of them, but counted them so I saw them and have a pretty good idea what they looked like.

MJM- I don't think tbn was being skeptical on the $17 ave for larger size ND coon. I think he's posted several time this year that he believes that large, good coon from the best regions will still bring a decent price this season. I believe that as well.

tbn- if I've misrepresented your view, I'm sorry.

Interesting to hear how the fur is offered at auction, as a trapper lot. That tells the true average out the gate. Sounded like pretty decent prices. Hope you guys plan to continue the auctions. The trappers who participated should have left happy for the most part. Thanks again MJM!
