I agree. Sometimes people get offended by such statements but honestly, you can't help sometimes what you catch or where you live. You have what you have.

Looks like a rub spot by the shoulders.
Might be a good one to practice home tanning.

It's a great coyote! (it's dead)

As far as a pelt.
Its a flat dark eastern.
Tanner yes seller no.

Great job on this catch and all the rest.

Not one I would skin unless it had sentimental meaning and I was going to tan it to keep.

Pale on coyotes refers to the back not the belly. Sorry. frown

If you need/want practice skinning, that would be a good one to start with. Since it is your first coyote, you will need to get accustomed to the smell......

The color Is Ok but there Is a huge lack of any guard hair. Skin It put It up then toss It away. It's a good practice critter.

Smell no big deal If you've spent any time In the fur shed.

Does someone have a photo of a nice western pale to show Zak?

We've broke his heart giving him the bad news... Least we can do is pass on some knowledge.

Looks like you're about ready to take a load or two to the dump.

I just caught one all rubbed down between the shoulder blades. It's the first one I've ever caught like that. I'm going to see what offer I get for it and then probably send it out to be tanned. It still has nice fur on the flanks and I can use that to sew some mittens or something.

Congratulations on the catch! Go get some more!

Zach, I know that country your in , and it’s not going to produce the type of coyote shown in the pic. All you can do is be glad you stopped a fawn killer cause what I remember about your area is your a little thin on deer numbers .

I would sell it, you mite 5 bucks for it at auction. The belly`s probably the only useful fur on it.

Yup, tan and keep it, it's your first. My first yote was a 45 pounder (huge for my area) with good/thick hair, but an ugly, dark, red/brown color. I had him mounted with the trap I caught him in (a Northwoods 1.75 coil) on his foot. Here he is-
By the way, those cats make me very jealous! We don't have very many around here, and can't hunt or trap them anyway. I've been watching your posts, you've had a great season! This weather and overtime at work has almost shut me down completely frown

When life gets me down..... you know hunting/trapping season is closed.
