Thinking of rechambering 1 to 7mm-08, anyone ever rebarrel? What kind of cost did it take?

Used to be able to have it done by remington, think it ran around $250. Not sure if they will still do it or not

It would be cheaper to buy a bolt rifle in that calibre. The pumps are cool I've owned three of the 760s.

If it is a 243 or 308 then rebarreling may be feasible. If it is a 270 or 3006 type then it isn’t.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I had an older 760 300 savage that was shot out. I found a good .308 barrel on numrich and had a gunsmith put it on. He had to grind off a locking lug in the barrel. I think, 150 for barrel, about the same for the work. Interesting thing was 300 wanted 180 grain, didn't shoot 150 for beans. The 308 loves the latter.

This gun is in .260, my daughters, doesn't shot for poop! I do agree can buy a new bolt gun, TC venture for $300. Just had stock cut to fit her don't really want to give up on it, just go to watch cost.

The 7600 is more feasible than the older 760. The action bar/bolt would need to be a 308 family or its more money. This will cost you more to rebarrel than just selling your current one and going on gunbroker and find one. Or like said above get a TC venture

The 260 is an outstanding 6.5 caliber. Are you shooting factory ammo in it and if so, how many brands have you tried ?

The 260 has great potential for reloading.

If you reload your own ammo you could make it shoot the way you like.

I agree with these guys as far as caliber.

Be sure to check your sights, alot of times when a gun doesn't shoot well, it's the mounts or the scope itself. I'd check this very close and change scopes before going the other route, if you already haven't.

As said; try some different loads to see if improves accuracy. Maybe re-crowning the muzzle. A good rifle builder should be able to get it to shoot.

Been thinking about this conundrum a little. Rifles can be somewhat fickle regarding ammunition. For example, Take any three identical rifles, it would not be unusual for all three rifles to shoot different brands of ammunition more accurately than the other. One may shoot Remington ammo very accurately and the other two may prefer Winchester and Federal, etc.

Also, you own a Rem 7600 in 260 rem caliber. Remington never cataloged this model in 260 Rem, so you own a "limited run or exclusive" non cataloged rifle. Until this post came along I never knew of a Remington 7600 pump chambered for 260 Rem. I also carry and hunt with a Rem 7600 non cataloged rifle. I have a laminate stocked ( black & gray laminate stock ) in 270W. Grice Gunshop in PA used to offer a lot of the Rem 7600 models in unique calibers, etc. I'm guessing you may have one of these as well.

Anyway - I encourage you to try some different ammunition and even some reloads for tightness of groups. My 7600 shoots every bit as accurately as my previous bolt action 270 did. I'd hate to see you spend a bunch of money to re-barrel a really cool pump rifle. To be honest, I'm contemplating a project gun right now that will likely be chambered for the 260 Rem.

Regards, Vic
