Top pic is a photo Gary Bussen sent me after i had asked how close do I put the trap ? hope you didnt mind me sharing this pic Gary !
2nd pic is a Cat I caught with a pipe set !
3rd pic is a coyote I caught a few days ago, I placed the piece of wood there, Gary Bussens gland he sent me and fox urine.
Last pic is a coyote that I caught with the brick as an attractor on a food plot, Gland, urine and curiosity lure.
I didnt say before and a lot of pics dont show, i make a KINDA walk through with a couple of briars and or a rock as a guide.
All my sets are 6 inches or less from Post or whatever object I use, clump of grass is my favorite , followed by a burnt piece of wood, I also pick up Limestone rocks as they are pretty white, they draw the animals as we have very little snow !

God do bless you guys, in no way am I as qualified to Post as John, Gary or Wayne !
These 3 are the ones Id love to take Schooling from in person !

I am always looking for clumps along my roads that the end loader makes while plowing snow. These spots are always used by coyotes for urine posts. I bury a trap and drag in the snow under a track at everyone I find. I used to add a little urine or gland also to the existing post. Don't do it. my success is 90% better by not adding anything other than a trap.

This post at the corner of a field is a prime spot.

The trail directly in front of the post is a shortcut running from a four way intersection on the left, to a small pila on the right.

The wind was blowing at a 45° angle across the field toward the corner post; which put both the trail and 4-way directly downwind.

The big crack on the right side of the post offered an ideal spot to squirt a good shot of coyote urine, and add a little dab of gland lure.

You can see where the urine has run down on the ground at the five o’clock hour on the post directly in front of the trap.

The natural guiding offered by the tufts of grass present a great walkthrough as well.

Here's a photo of the intersection just to the left of the above pics to give you a better idea of why I set this location.

There is also a cattle guard just a few yards left of the photo.

Multiple coyotes have been caught at this crossroad.

Tejas,

With such a large immovable post...do you have many pull outs? I was wondering if they would use the post as leverage or are they not that smart?? LOL

There was an abandoned set of roads on a base where I was trapping. The firehydrants were still there. I smeared a little castor on the hydrant and caught a yote. Buddy doubted me.

Just a dog bein a dog LOL. They'll mark most any outstanding object. Those big post and stumps get better when there chewed on LOL. Intersections in open ground and timber seem to be marker locations especially with more than one group using. Thorpe use to plant those big posts preseason on north facing edges. They produce all season. He's the one that told me to put the trap tight to the object and quite readin books and listen to the animals. Tracks don't lie fellas

My lab shows me exactly where I need to put a trap if there is no snow. I just watch for him to lock his nose down on an object!
