Today I came home from school and checked my only 2 DP traps. As I checked my second trap, I saw that I had a opossum in the trap! I know it isn't much, but I have to start somewhere.

Good for you next time maybe it will be a coon.

The 1st year I trapped,I was trapping a small creek that I thought had mink wrote all over it. Barn rats is all I got. You'll catch on!

Come on post a picture. We all gotta start someplace. Congratulations practice skinning and fleshing it. They are very thin so be careful.

You already surpassed my original trapping endeavor.
Me and my trapping partner (both of us 13 at the time) got skunked on our first longline (one trap. A 1 1/2 longspring). My partner ate his dinner too fast and by the time we made the long trek to the trapline (again, just the one trap), he hurled his guts out. It was spaghetti, and in the snow, it looked just like it had in the plate before he ate it. (He was a bit of a food inhaler.)
We set our can't-miss persimmon tree set which we had read about, except it was a crabapple tree with no fruit. You have to play the cards you are dealt.
We came back day # 2 to check our trapline (1 1/2 longspring), and the trap was untouched, but every single strand of my partner's spaghetti was gone! The snow only had a faint hint of pink left of the sauce. Possum tracks everywhere but on the pan.
You did good!

Welcome to the addiction, it only gets better from here!

People ask me why I trap if it's not good money I tell them it's time well wasted.

nice job squirrel.

one of my favorite parts of trapping is finding some other furry critter than the one I was trying to catch...makes me start to think
