Went there when I was sixteen, I thought it sucked 1.5 hours at 30 mph with only walls of trees to look at on way in and out

We go nearly every year, but never before Labor Day. Crowds drive us nuts. But here's a few places to go. Mammoth hot springs at the north. The geological features are awesome and it's fun to see the elk right in town. Also be sure to drive north a few miles down to Gardner, It's your best chance to see big horn sheep. Drive out through the Lamar Valley. Tons of Bison, Antelope. That's also the best place to see Wolf and Grizzly, but that's not a sure thing. Go down through Haden Valley along the Yellowstone River. Lots of wildlife there as well. If you fish, don't bother with the park. It's not like the 60's. They won't restock the rivers with cut throat trout, but they don't have any problem restocking the mountains with wolves. The Madison River, out the west entrance has some good fishing as does Jackson lake to the south. If you go that way, drive on down to Jackson Wyoming. It's about an hour and a half from the Yellowstone. Your wife and daughters will really enjoy that. So will you. It's a fun little town. You could spend a day there, and lot's of money. Then there's Old Faithful, Yellowstone Lake, all the hot pots and mud pots. My wife actually likes the smell of them. I can tell you this, you can fart and no one will notice. Take good glass. Binoculars and spotting scope are really important. Get out and walk a lot. Swim in the lake. Have a great time.
