As for Wayne, I'm going to order his coyote trapping DVD, sure wish I could attend his trapping school in Texas, of all the trapping schools out there this one would be my first choice, can't imagine the info you could gather with Wayne and Weiser being together at this school...

Most of the trapping magazines today want there writers to do how to articles if you want to read about some of the old time wolfer i.e. Bounty trappers fellers like james mast,Floyd macbeth,geoff,herb lennon,bill nelson and many others get some fur fish game and hunter trader trapper magazines from the 1930s,40s and 50s for some good reading from some of the real pioneers in predator trapping...

Herb Lenon and John Ehn were the best known genuine wolfers in this regionof the 1920'0 and 30's working as Michigan state trappers working mainly on timber wolves and Herb Lenon an instructor of state trappers Both wrote caninetrapping instruction books in the1930's and1940's which included wolf trapping

John Ehn was noted for being a proficient den hunter, many times crawling right into the wolf den with a .38 revolver in one hand, shooting the Mother wolf and then extracting the pups from the den

Look into Leon Smith ,Vern dorn ( aka king of the denners in some groups ) Eddy Wimberly and A R Harding. Sorry some of these guys are gone to better trapping grounds but they were some of the best.

I honestly never put much research into the era of the wolfers. No disrespect intended... Just didn't pique my interest... Float me a few names and I'll see what I can come up with.

Now if you want to know about the fur trade in OK during the mountain man era... I can help. There were some major players who operated in the NE part of the state. Especially around the three forks area near Ft. Gibson/Muskogee.

I personally wouldn't hesitate to name Jack Whitman as a renowned wolfer, whether he want to admit it or not, the man knows wolves like the back of his hand. I also know that he has atleast one book for you to check out.

Mr.Whitman's book is a good read.

Pud Long 1000 coyotes a year in Oregon think it counts. that was in the 40s transportation was a bit different.

Roger catling was putting up 300 wolves a year at one point. All shot. A pelt from him was known as a Catling just like a painting can be known as a Picasso. He has a double door on his cabin and a look out point overlooking a large lake. Go have a look in the morning and if wolves are spotted then the Skidoo was already warm. He lives in NWT, still gets a bunch of wolves every year but I'm not sure the numbers these days. Last story I read about him was a couple years ago when him and a buddy got 13 in twenty minutes or so.
