I recently lost my 3AA Hazlo Streamlight Led Headlamp. I am considering replacing it with the Streamlight ProTac HL Headlamp that uses the CR123A Batteries. Any body have any experience with the rechargeable 123A batteries in a led headlamp? Also while on the subject what headlamp do you have and recommend?

I cant comment on the rechargeable ones but I have a Streamlight light that I use at work that takes 123 batteries and they dont last all that long and are EXPENSIVE.

I bought a "Coast" headlamp this year which I used for checking my snare line this winter before work.
Very bright! and the batteries lasted me about 6 weeks with about an hr usage every weekday. (weekends I slept in and checked in the light) So that was about 30 hrs of use.
It is dimmer now but still plenty useable. I didn't think that was too bad.
It uses 4 AA batteries, which was one of the main reasons I bought it. Every other one I looked at used rechargeables like your looking at or dinky AAA's which just wouldn't cut it I figured.
I'm happy with it.
I think I paid $65 for it.
Has a LED bulb.

My experience with cr123 batteries is the same ^ expensive dont last long. Now own one called Railhead gear headband style light, takes double A's last long time. Most cheap LED ones that take double A's are hard to beat. If I need something brighter, the Bright Eyes Belt light gets broke out.

I am a freak when it comes to flashlites....headlites... etc. In my opinion of learning the hard way stay away from lites that don't use a regular battery like AAs or AAAs. You can find these batteries anywhere and sometimes real cheap when on sale or using coupons. If you use a light a lot and I mean a lot, even those type with AA or AAA can get to be a pain. I have a lite or 2 ( ok many lights) that use a sealed gell battery about a little bigger than 2 packs of cigarettes put together. I know many have a lite that uses a coin or button type battery for my 3 cents worth you'll be happier with another style lite!

I have the same batteries in my driveway alarm and end up replacing them every 8-9 months. For what the local big box store wants for 2, I can buy 6 on line with free shipping. Had I known before about what batteries it used would have considered something else.
