Doesn't look to be hooked up to deep into that trap.

The foot is bigger than the trap, in my limited experience with Cougars get them across the toes in a quality trap and a 24 hr check you'll get a look at them. I have caught them with their foot all the way in all in KB traps.

Those were the first 9 traps I bought when I started trapping 3 years ago and since then I have bought a total of 3 dozen. Hands down my favorite. I too wish they were still made.

Tom,

Did you harvest the cat? I was thinking NM lets you trap them but not sure if I have the right state in mind.

is that the trap that the base flexes and acts like a shock spring?

I had to release a mule deer out of a KB yesterday. First time I have seen a trap hold a deer by the hoof.

I would guess you need help releasing them? How the heck would you hold on to one with a catch pole.

I release at least one deer every year, if they're aggressive I let them watch Poncho! the cat was taken and yes the trap has a built in shock that also puts more pressure on the jaw and relaxes when the animal stops pulling, for cougars I add a JC Connors shock spring which you can see in the picture. Since moving here I've caught several Cougars all in KB I've also had some pull out that was before I paid more attention to how the animal steps into the trap. I trap every year and try for whatever is out there It's always more fun when the prices are up but when the trail is shorter ahead than the one behind money isn't so important. It's a good time to be a trapper!

Curious, how do you release a deer from a foothold? I hope I never have to.
