I'm sure somebody on here knows what a Smith & Wesson 38 Special model 19-4 with a 8" barrel is worth? It's about 98-97% condition and blue with factory wood grips. A guy at my work is wanting to sell it and I don't want to over pay for it.

Model 19 is .357. The K38 is a model 14 . That link is wrong. Model 19 has an under barrel lug enclosing ejector rod.

Furthermore the model 19 was only made in 2 1/2", 4", and 6 inch length.

Here's a picture of the Smith & Wesson. Inside the frame with the cylinder open it says Mod 19-4 and on the barrel it says 38 special

All I can say is look up a model 19 and a model 14 and compare the pics. That is obviously a model 14 .38 Special with 8 3/8" barrel.
If it is marked as you say, something fishy is going on.

see what they are going for at www.gunsamerica.com and www.gunbroker.com and www.gunsinternational.com is what I usually do

of course, you could ask the REAL experts at the S&W Collectors Forum

I can only tell it has Target sights...not sure about hammer or trigger

actually looks like a Trigger Shoe

Taking a closer look at the length of the cylinder,it does look like the longer .357 cylinder. Looks like a model14 barrel screwed onto a model 19 frame and cylinder.

Ok here is a picture of the model #. I measured the length of the barrel and it's 7 1/2"
This revolver is very confusion, I'm going to try and call Smith & Wesson this week to see what they can tell me about this gun. Thanks to everybody that has weighed in on this thread.

Barrel length is 8 3/8" Revolvers are measured to the cylinder face. This gun is definitely different and I still think a post factory modification.
Smith HAS made some odd small lots of revolvers in the past though.

Is the cylinder counter bored to enclose the case rims? Will a .357 drop in all the way?

The longest barrel length I know of in the 19 was 6" and all the 19 barrels have ejector rod shrouds.Someone wanted a longer barrel on their 19 and screwed one on from a 14.

Yes that is what I look for .I had check the lenght of my 357 ruger cylinder it is 1 5/8" it is a black hawk ,also the lenght of the SP 101 also and the lenght of the case of a 38spl is about 1 3/16" .So it looks to be a 357 mag you got from the lenght of the cylinder you have

So would you feel safe shooting a 357 out of it if it was your's?
