I am sure I butchered spelling, I am watching the Olympics and this event is on. Does any one know what distance they shoot?

It is pretty cool to watch, I’d like to try it one time.

I know adam I thought that set up was pretty nifty. I wouldn't be good at that cant hit jack half the time, then to add a endurance race with the ski's.. I would hate to see how much one of those gun would run a person.

Fortner is not spring loaded. I owned one of 2 Anschutz 54.18 MS R Fortners ever imported, as well as an 1827 F. These guys are using their thumb to seat bolt forward. Some will have extended bolt back plate to get better push.

Very cool system of lock up. Lots like hydraulic fittings with several ball bearings that pop out into a race and lock there. Pulling thumb bar moves wedge type thing back and allows bearings to loosen.

Both those anschutz rifles were great investments! I bought the 1827 biathlon for under 1000 at a gander mountain complete with sling and 4 mags. Sold it for 3600 about 4 years later!

Biathlon is great. I always seem to miss it. It is what got me into cross-country skiing years ago.

does anyone know what the device is that is on the bottom of the muzzle and projects forward at an angle and what purpose it serves?

Snow guard. Flips up to cover muzzle and front sight. Watch hand movements ant you can see some flip it open before starting.

Headgear is interesting. Wonder if its purpose is to block the off eye and/or to help steady the hold? Never see it used elsewhere. Should be good for longrange shooting.
